Team

The WeatherX team is an interdisciplinary group of researchers, curriculum developers, scientists, and educators from multiple organizations who have worked closely with teachers and students in northern New England to develop and study WeatherX curriculum materials.

Josephine Louie

Senior Research Scientist at Education Development Center, WeatherX Principal Investigator. Jo leads the NSF-funded WeatherX project, with a focus on guiding and carrying out project research.

Brian Fitzgerald

Director of Education at Mount Washington Observatory, WeatherX Co-Principal Investigator.  Brian led the Chat with a Scientist component of the WeatherX curriculum and helped lead development of the WeatherX curriculum materials.

Asli Sezen-Barrie

Associate Professor at the University of Maine-Orono (and NSF Program Director, 2020-2023), WeatherX Co-Principal Investigator (emeritus).  Asli contributed to curriculum development and helped to lead and carry out project research.

Kevin Waterman

Senior Project Director at Education Development Center, WeatherX Co-Principal Investigator. Kevin helped lead curriculum development and project dissemination.

Emily Fagan

Project Director at Education Development Center, WeatherX Co-Principal Investigator. Emily led curriculum development and teacher professional development efforts.

Pam Buffington

Director of Rural STEM Initiatives at Education Development Center. Pam helped lead project recruiting and contributed to curriculum and teacher professional development activities.

Bill Finzer

Senior Scientist at The Concord Consortium. Bill contributed to WeatherX curriculum development and led the development of an online portal to NOAA weather data, a permanent plug-in tool within the Common Online Data Analysis Program (CODAP).

Deb Morrison

Research Scientist at  the University of Washington, Seattle. Deb is a learning scientist who contributed to WeatherX curriculum development.

Brianna Roche

Research Associate at Education Development Center (emeritus). Brianna contributed to WeatherX curriculum development, project research, and production of media resources.

Nicole Tallman

Education Specialist at Mount Washington Observatory (emeritus). Nicole contributed to WeatherX curriculum development and participated in Chat with a Scientist sessions with teachers and students.

Shona Vitelli

Grade 7 Science Teacher in Massachusetts. Shona contributed to WeatherX curriculum development.

Sarah Jessen

Founder and Executive Director of The White Barn Center for Research. Sarah has served as the external evaluator for the WeatherX project.
