The San Diego Quick provides a quick glance at a student’s academic word knowledge and helps determine the level of text that is likely appropriate for the reader for independent and instructional reading purposes.
PrePrimer - Frustration
HW read the PrePrimer word list with 3 errors (s/e/ for see, pl/a/y for play, and h /a//r//e/ for here). HW read majority of words without error in the Preprimer list. HW made a self-correction with the word go, stating/g//o//t/ then correcting to the word /g/o.
Strengths: HW demonstrated automatic word recognition. She could immediately recognize and pronounce most of the PrePrimer sight words without having to break the words down into individual sounds.
Needs: HW faces challenges with identifying and reading a few of the sight words fluently specifically high frequency words found in children's reading material. She will likely struggle understanding what she reads and engaging in reading tasks.
