eCSR Workshop 2021

Information

The eCSR (explore Computer Science Research) workshop aims to bring computer science students, research faculty, and alumni to explore machine learning concepts, allow networking opportunities, and socialize! The workshop will consist of collaborative activities and serve as an introduction to machine learning concepts for students. Prizes and food will be provided!

Who: Students with completion of CS 111 or some equivalent programming experience in Python.

When: Saturday, April 17th from 10 am - 4 pm CST

Where: Virtual! Details will be sent out via emails closer to the event date!

FAQ

What is the format of the event?

The workshop will consist of collaborative activities with opportunities to network and learn more about machine learning research. There will be prizes for the competition! We will be providing lunch through GrubHub and be shipping swag prior to the event.

What time should I join?

The event begins at 10 am. Plan on joining at least 5-10 minutes before the start time.

Do I need to be a CS major to apply?

No, the only requirements are the completion of CS 111 or some equivalent programming experience in Python and an interest in exploring machine learning.

What do I need to prepare before the event?

The only preparation needed is a small amount of homework assigned before the workshop. Details will be emailed to you after you are accepted into the workshop!

Where will the event take place?

The event will be virtual! Details will be emailed to you after you are accepted into the workshop!

Will there be prizes?

Yes! There will be prizes for the collaborative activities!

Do I need to be available for the entire workshop to apply?

Yes, availability for the entire event will be prioritized. You also must be able to participate fully in order to receive the completion certificate.

Can international students participate? Can non-US citizens participate?

Yes to both. However, we may not be able to ship swag/prizes internationally. We may be able to save these for you at UIC for you to pick up when you return to campus. However, this is case dependent. However, there will be no priority given to domestic students and US citizens, all are welcome.
