Principles of the ECQHRN
This network gives space for ECRs to share their challenges and innovative methodological solutions, along with their methodological quandaries as they lead advancements in various fields using qualitative research methods. It also creates a safe space to discuss precarity in academia and the difficulty for a person in the early stage of their career of navigating the complex academic system, too often alone. The ECQHRN emphasises that community collaboration can help overcome current QHR issues and develop innovation, as well as personal struggles and feelings of isolation; and empower ECRs.
Who are we?
We are a group of mid- and early-career qualitative researchers working in the UK
We are an inclusive network
We are a collaborative network
We are an inquisitive and supportive network
We are a free network
Who is the network for?
Anyone who self-identifies as a mid- and early-career qualitative researcher in the UK. To ensure that the focus of the group remains on supporting those in the most precarious situations, we exclude anyone appointed as a professor or reader (sometimes called an associate professor) from the network.
What do we do?
Share innovative and different methodological approaches to help people see different approaches to research (outside of their silo)
Provide informal spaces to collaborate and support one another
Meet at lunchtime to share methodologies or network
Organise one larger event per year
Promote inclusive and accessible academic spaces
Remain free and unaffiliated
"I've loved being part of the committee, it's an inclusive and supportive group of early career researchers that want to lift each other and create opportunities for others. Being part of the committee has allowed me to engage with a wider group of researchers outside of my usual network and has prompted me to focus and spend more time thinking and engaging with my research and qualitative methods."
