Overview:

Starship Somatics is a community dance modality Petra Kuppers developed during the early days of the COVID pandemic, creating online environments for accessible, disability-culture-focused somatic creative movement. These classes use improvised movement (inner and outer movement as it is accessible and appropriate to participants), dream journeys, sounding, writing, and drawing as transportation devices.

Workshops are firmly grounded in the sensory immediacy of any given setting; whether beds or sofas at home, or studios, rooms, floors and windows in a collective space – flying wide to honor ways of being of all kinds. All are welcome, grounded in disability culture values.

This methods workshop is joined virtually by Kuppers' usual Starship Somatics online session, 11am-12pm (free through Movement Research). After the first-hour’s dreamjourney/experience, the in-person group will continue choreographic explorations.

Please bring loose clothes, and some writing materials.

In-Person Registration: Space is limited to 25 participants. Masks are welcome. To register for the in-person session, select the ticket called, "Starship Somatics Registration: In-Person
