Details given in below link
Foldscope is an ultra-affordable field microscope that is built from common materials such as paper.
It is affordable, durable and gives optical quality similar to conventional research microscopes.
With the magnification of 140X and imaging resolution of 2 microns; Foldscope brings microscopy to remote or field areas where it is not possible to take a microscope.
Useful to see different kinds of microscopic organisms like algae, bacteria, pollens, plankton, spores etc. Compatible with almost all camera phones.
Our Mission:
It is a low-cost scientific tool which aims to break down the price barrier between people and the curiosity and excitement of scientific exploration.
Foldscope Community
Foldscope users around the world share their ideas in an online space called the Microcosmos.
INVENTED BY DR. MANU PRAKASH AND TEAM
Manu Prakash is an Indian born scientist who is a Professor of Bioengineering at Stanford University. He is best known for his Foldscope. His work focuses on frugal innovation that makes medicine, computing and microscopy accessible to more people
HOW IT IS USEFULTO STUDENTS?
Students who wish across the world. to study the microscopic life but are way far from the microscope can use this as it is not so delicate item as the microscope
Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science & Technology, Govt. Of India (New Delhi) with Praksh Lab., Stanford University, U.S. has sanctioned a project called Foldscope to the different schools, colleges and universities of India to conduct research work by using foldscope and to conduct workshop with demonstarting Foldscope.
Objectives: Main objectives of this project is to assess ecosystem health of river ecosystems with the involvement of college students using microscopic organisms (Algae, zooplankton, macrozoobenthos and bacteria) with low cost equipments like Foldscope.
