About

History

For many years I've wanted to talk with passionate people involved in the conservation field and connect them to likeminded others.

To me, the connections being built could be anything from volunteering, collaborating on projects, or even building support networks between organizations.

What is conservation?

To us, conservation is about caring for our environment and attempting to limit humanity's negative impacts on it. Sometimes this means taking care of what remains, and other times it means repairing things that have been broken.

This can take many forms including maintenance and restoration of species/ecosystems or sustainable growth and development.

We're of the belief that people are not and should not be separate from our environment.

As each person has different talents, skills, and interests, we want to make it clear that anyone can participate in conservation, and we encourage people to seek places to do so.

Who are we?

Stephen Smoak (Host)

Stephen is a lifelong student of the outdoors and nature. From a young age he has been captivated by the natural world, but mostly its plethora of reptiles and amphibians. He studied Chemical Engineering in college and kept returning to the outdoors whenever he had the time.  Outdoors he loves to wander around in the woods, looking and listening for anything moving. Recently he joined Miami University's Project Dragonfly to pursue a degree in conservation and sustainability.

Favorite thing to see in nature? : I love to see wildlife doing its own "hidden" things. Whether it's watching a heron waiting for its prey, or a frog falling from a tree, it doesn't really matter.

Thing you wish to see? : I would like to travel to Sri Lanka and see some of its unique reptiles and amphibians. I think that the various species living in cloud forests around the world are some of the most interesting reptiles and amphibians out there, and I'd love to see them in their native habitat.
