I don't think one needs it any more. The latest versions of Eclipse have Maven plugin enabled. So you will just need to import a Maven project into Eclipse and no more as an existing project. Eclipse will create the needed .project, .settings, .classpath files based on your pom.xml and environment settings (installed Java version, etc.) . The earlier versions of Eclipse needed to have run the command mvn eclipse:eclipse which produced the same result.

On April 8, 2024, nature's grandest spectacle -- a total eclipse of the sun -- will cross over Mexico, the United States, and Canada. This is your guide to understand, plan for, and view this amazing sight!

Eclipse startup is controlled by the options in $ECLIPSE_HOME/eclipse.ini. If $ECLIPSE_HOME is not defined, the default eclipse.ini in your Eclipse installation directory (or in the case of Mac, the Eclipse.app/Contents/MacOS directory) is used.

One of the most recommended options to use is to specify a specific JVM for Eclipse to run on. Doing this ensures that you are absolutely certain which JVM Eclipse will run in and insulates you from system changes that can alter the "default" JVM for your system. Many a user has been tripped up because they thought they knew what JVM would be used by default, but they thought wrong. eclipse.ini lets you be CERTAIN.

This might not work on all systems. If you encounter "Java was started but returned exit code=1" error while starting the eclipse, modify the -vm argument to point to jvm.dll (exact path could be different):

On a macOS system, you can find eclipse.ini by right-clicking (or Ctrl+click) on the Eclipse executable in Finder, choose Show Package Contents, and then locate eclipse.ini in the Eclipse folder under Contents. The path is often:/Applications/Eclipse.app/Contents/Eclipse/eclipse.ini

NOTE: Occasionally, depending on the version of your macOS and whether or not you had already run this particular Eclipse installation before, upon launch after changing the -vm, you may run into an error that says "the application is damaged and can't be opened". This is the expected behavior since you just modified a signed/notarized app. This problem can be overcome by opening the Eclipse application once before changing the eclipse.ini file. Alternatively, running of the following command can fix the issue too: xattr -cr Eclipse.app

From the list produced by that command, select the JDK you want to use and put that path into the eclipse.ini file, making sure to append /bin/java to the path (eg, /Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/jdk1.8.0_51.jdk/Contents/Home/bin/java

The zone of totality, in which it will become almost completely dark, runs through a number of DNR properties. The eclipse will first be visible in Indiana in the Mount Vernon area, and through the afternoon it will progress across the state through regions that include Linton, Bloomington, Indianapolis, Shelbyville, Muncie, New Castle, Connersville, and Portland. Along the center line of the zone of totality, darkness will last for approximately four minutes, and as you move farther away from the center line of that arc across the state, the timeframe and amount of darkness will drop.

We look forward to providing you with outdoor places to gather to watch the eclipse, great programs in the days before and during the event, and options for lodging so you can be ready and in place to enjoy it.

During a solar eclipse, a New Moon obscures some or all of the sun. A partial solar eclipse is a mildly interesting event that must be observed using eye protection and solar filters. A total solar eclipse is a far grander and more nuanced spectacle. As the last slither of sunlight is still visible the temperature crashes, twilight takes hold and once it's 100% eclipsed the sun's white corona is revealed to the naked eye. It's a powerful, even life-changing experience.

When the moon crosses the sun a cone-shaped shadow trails behind the moon. When the tip of that cone just misses Earth a partial solar eclipse is visible. When the tip touches Earth's surface it creates a narrow dark shadow from which it's possible to see a total solar eclipse. On either side of that 'path of totality' a partial solar eclipse is visible.

If you want to know when the next solar eclipse will occur and where you can see it, check out our solar eclipses 2024 guide and our solar eclipse live updates page.
