Like the ECHO East Africa's solar dryer work, this web page is still a work in progress. As we try new things and make changes to improve the dryers, we will share what we learnby updating page. The following is a running record of changes to this web page starting Jan. 3, 2025.
12 October. Added references to a solar tunnel dryer to both the Reference information page and also to the main direct dryer page.. This included references to a generally useful site, Solare Bruecke.
3 September 2025. Added a link to a commercial direct solar dryer, Dehytray, to the main direct dryer page.
28 February 2025. Added this presentation from the 8th ECHO East Africa Biennial Symposium in collaboration with Hope International Burundi which was held 25 to 27 February 2025 to the main direct dryer page.
17 February 2025 A couple of additions to the table of foods that have been tested on the What can I dry and how do I dry it? page. Also moved the How dry is dry enough? page to be closer to the What can I dry and how do I dry it? page
16 February 2025. Added a link to a report about the direct dryer work in ECHO Development Notes (EDN) #69 to the main direct dryer page.
31 January 2025 Over the past week at ECHO East Africa, we have put everything that we have learned together into one dryer. That is the one now in the heading photo on the direct dryer page. The costs have been updated. Costs increased due to using the more durable fiberglass glazing.
8 Jan 2025 Added carrots and amaranth leaves to table on drying results. Added more info to coconut entry.
8 Jan 2025 Added summary to the indirect dryer page which here-to-for had no content.
