On 21st April 2025, the Department of Earthquake Engineering at IIT Roorkee organized a One-Day Workshop on Physical and Numerical Modelling of Geohazards in the Himalayan Region, hosted by the newly established Earthquake and Geohazard Characterization (ECG) Lab.
The event was inaugurated by Prof. K.K. Pant, Director, IIT Roorkee, who also officially launched the ECG Lab. His encouragement and presence provided a great start to the day’s proceedings.
Throughout the day, participants had the opportunity to hear from a distinguished panel of experts:
Dr. H.S. Negi (Scientist, DGRE DRDO)
Prof. Neelima Satyam (Department of Civil Engineering, IIT Indore)
Prof. S.P. Pradhan (Department of Earth Sciences, IIT Roorkee)
Prof. Y.A. Pulpadan (Department of Earth & Environmental Sciences, IISER Mohali)
Prof. S.S. Subramanian (CoEDMM, IIT Roorkee)
Mr. Rajnish Nath (Regional Sales Manager, Geobrugg)
The workshop sessions covered a range of topics including advanced techniques in physical and numerical modelling, case studies of high-altitude geohazard events, and evolving challenges in risk assessment and mitigation. A lively panel discussion brought forward valuable insights into future research directions.
Hands-on activities and discussions on debris flows, landslides, and related geohazards allowed participants to engage directly with real-world challenges and emerging solutions.
The workshop brought together researchers, students, and industry professionals, creating a vibrant platform for exchanging ideas and fostering future collaborations. We are thrilled with the positive response and the energy the event generated within the geohazard research community.
A big congratulations to everyone involved in making this event a success! We look forward to hosting more such initiatives in the future at the ECG Lab.
