The most important thing for you to know about Sophomore Seminar is that this course is intended to support you in your semester AND to help you prepare to make a good transition after leaving ECF.

Junior and senior year can be stressful: juggling classes; choosing colleges; completing college applications and application essays; writing a resume and profile; gathering recommendation letters; taking the ACT; retesting; filling out the FAFSA for financial aid; completing a job shadow; applying for scholarships; beginning to think about a career path and choosing a major. Sophomore Seminar is an opportunity to get a jump on this--so that junior and senior year can be less stressful and you’ll have more time to make good, thoughtful decisions.

We'll focus, in particular, on beginning to map out possible futures--including careers and training--and we’ll spend a lot of time preparing for the ACT. We’ll also allow time for support of academic work, along with anything else that arises that could be of use.

Class time will be a mix of silent work and collaborative time.

Our hope for you is that you’ll use this semester to grow as a student and a person, to get clearer about your purpose and goals, and that you’ll take a significant and positive step forward in carrying this out. Please let us know if and when you have extenuating circumstances relevant to this course—and/or anything you need to make this course work better for you.
