Family Night Schedule:
Whole Group Activity - “Passport to Play” – Children and families will explore two interactive cultural games:
Lotería (Mexico): A fun and colorful picture-based game similar to Bingo that celebrates Latin American culture.
Daruma-san ga Koronda (Japan): A lively stop-and-go game, similar to “Red Light, Green Light,” that supports listening and coordination while introducing families to a playful Japanese tradition.
Centers:
Taste of the World: Try small bites from various cultures, such as mini samosas (India) and empanadas (Latin America), with child-friendly options and ingredient lists available.
Family Heritage Craft: Families will work together to decorate a “Culture Quilt” square using art materials and symbols that represent their family traditions or culture. All the squares will later be stitched together for a classroom display.
Sing Around the World: Join a musical circle to sing folk songs from around the globe like “Che Che Koolay” (Ghana) and “De Colores” (Mexico), incorporating rhythm instruments and dance.
Closing Reflection:
Families will gather for a cozy storytelling circle. A guest speaker, such as a multilingual community member or military parent who has lived abroad, will share a story about their cultural journey.
Children and families will be invited to write or draw one thing they learned or felt during the night to add to our “Wall of Wonders”—a growing mural that celebrates cultural understanding and joy.
These activities will start at 5:30 PM and last until 7:00PM.
