1. Welcome and Introductions
All Booster Club Officers, ECA/CEC Staff, parents, and students introduced themselves.
Pam Christison (Booster Club Treasurer) described the history of the Booster Club and previous fundraisers.
2. Smith’s Donation Recipient Status
We discussed the possibility of having a school-wide challenge to increase the Smith’s Card Donation program as a fundraiser for the Booster Club. We voted to move forward with that.
3. Nurse’s Request for Supplies
Our school nurse, Naomi Brown, described her need for donations for health supplies. She created an Amazon Wish List with a QR code for easy scanning. Parents made suggestions about other ways to find some of the supplies, like a double-lock cabinet. The document will be added to the Booster Club website.
4. Cosmetology Smock Fundraiser
Our Cosmetology teacher has requested smocks for her classroom. We made her request known to meeting participants and directed them to the website or the flier outside of the Cosmetology room for those interested in contributing.
5. STUCO Presentation
Emelia Sais, the STUCO president, and Coach Curry, the Activities director described the events for the fall semester. They are as follows:
● Sept 30 Homecoming 7-10pm, Masquerade Ball theme, will need chaperones and drinks/snacks
● Sept 28 Powder Puff Game, Fr/So vs Jr/Sr
● Oct 28 Fall Carnival, likely 4-8pm, Booth ideas to Coach Curry
● Oct 31 Trunk or Treat
● Nov 4 NMSU bus trip, all day event, parents welcome
● Dec 3 Twinkle Light Parade – will need help with building/decorating the float, walking with the float, and tear down.
Jenny Galasso (Booster Club President) will meet with Coach Curry on 9/15/2022 to discuss specific needs.
A question was asked about whether background checks are needed for chaperoning and other similar volunteer activities. Diane Thomas (ECA/CEC Vice Principal) explained that no background check is requires for activities that includes ECA/CEC staff and teachers. Volunteer opportunities that have unsupervised contact with students require an APS background check. Check with Ms Thomas for details.
6. 501 c(3) status?
We discussed as a group the pros and cons of changing the Booster Club status from a Nonprofit LLC with the state to a 501 (3)c. Several parents have experience with the requirements. They described the need for a new bank account, a registered agent, advertising annual meeting and publishing a meeting agenda. We voted to move forward with the investigation of the requirements for this transition.
7. Volunteers for VP and Secretary
The Booster Club has two open officer positions and we asked for volunteers to fill these positions. Karen Edmondson, the parent of an ECE/CEC 11th grader, volunteered for the Vice President position. She was voted into the position with no opposition. There were no volunteers for Secretary.
Other opportunities for helping out the school include developing an Internship list, creating a Letter of Sponsorship so that businesses can support the Booster Club and receive recognition in return.
8. Next Meeting Date
We hold the Booster Club meetings on the 2nd Tuesday of the month at 5:30pm. Our next meeting will be Tuesday Oct 11th at 5:30pm.
9. Adjourn
The meeting adjourned at 6:45pm
Action Items:
