Energy-Based Seismic Engineering Network

Home

Great progresses have been made in the last decades in order to enhance the preparedness of communities against earthquakes. A significant step forward has been the formulation of the force-based approach for the design of structural systems subjected to seismic loads. Because of its inability in taking into proper account the damage mitigation together with collapse prevention, more effective approaches were later proposed, namely displacement- and energy-based approaches. Despite its great potential, there are still several open issues that prevent a reliable large-scale implementation of an energy-based approach in seismic engineering. In this perspective, the Energy-Based Seismic Engineering Network (EBSENet) aims at contributing to the resilience of the built environment against earthquakes through the development of a comprehensive energy-based framework for the seismic analysis, design and risk mitigation of the structures.
