eBookCurl Privacy Policy
Last updated: 12 July 2026
Overview
eBookCurl ("we", "our", "the app") is a PDF/EPUB reader with an AI reading assistant. This policy explains what data the app handles, why, and how you can control it. We built eBookCurl to keep your books on your device — most of what you read never leaves your phone.
What stays on your device
Your books (PDF/EPUB files), reading progress, bookmarks, notes, highlights, and app settings are stored locally on your device using standard Android app storage and are never uploaded to us. Uninstalling the app or clearing its data permanently deletes this information.
On-device OCR (for scanned pages) runs entirely on your phone via Google's ML Kit — page images are never sent anywhere for this.
AI reading features
When you use Explain, Translate, Define, Recap, or Ask the Book, the selected text or page passage you chose is sent to our backend (Firebase Cloud Functions), which forwards it to Google's Gemini API to generate a response. We do not send your whole book, your identity, or your device contacts.
We do not use this content to train AI models, and it is not linked to your name or email — we don't collect either. Cached AI responses are stored locally on your device to avoid repeat requests for text you've already asked about.
Analytics
We use Firebase Analytics (Google) to understand how the app is used — which screens are opened, which features are used, and crash/performance data. This is aggregated usage data (event names, device type, app version) and is not tied to your name, email, or the content of your books.
Advertising
Free-plan users see ads served by Google AdMob. AdMob may use your Advertising ID and standard ad-serving data to show and measure ads, and may work with third-party ad networks under Google's own policies. Premium subscribers do not see ads.
You can reset or limit your Advertising ID anytime in your device's system settings (Settings, then Privacy, then Ads).
Subscriptions and purchases
Subscriptions are purchased and managed through Google Play Billing and processed by RevenueCat, which tracks your subscription status using an anonymous app-generated ID — not your name or email. We never see or store your card or payment details; Google Play handles all payment information directly.
Accounts
eBookCurl does not require you to create an account, and we do not collect your name, email, or phone number to use the app.
Children's privacy
eBookCurl is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we'll remove it.
Third-party services we use
Google Firebase (Analytics, Remote Config, Cloud Functions)
Google AdMob (advertising)
Google Gemini API (AI responses, via our backend)
Google ML Kit (on-device OCR)
RevenueCat (subscription management)
Google Play Billing (payments)
Each of these providers processes data under their own privacy policies, linked from the Google Play listing for this app.
Your choices
Clear Reading History (in Settings) resets local progress data.
Uninstalling the app removes all locally stored books, notes, and settings.
Resetting your Advertising ID (device settings) limits ad personalisation.
Contact us at support@ebookcurl.app for any data question or deletion request not covered above.
Security
We rely on Google Firebase's and Google Play's infrastructure security for any data that leaves your device. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we don't collect more than the app needs to function.
Changes to this policy
If we change how eBookCurl handles data, we'll update this page and the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the app after a change means you accept the update.
