World of Ebonyr

Welcome

This project is currently focusing on the Meridian region of Ebonyr. Specifically the continents of Wesseren and North Meridia.

Just like in our world, God / Creator spoke the cosmos and everything in it into existence. God / Creator then created humankind by breathing his essence into them.

A part of God / Creators spiritual servants despaired that humankind, a physical being, had presidence and were looked on more favorably by the Creator.

They tried to interfere in the affairs of men and the Creator waged war upon them. They were cast out of the spiritual realm into the aether realm - which is neither here nor there.

The rebellious celestials, the Azayel, whispered into men's ears on the ways of metallurgy, signs of the cosmos (seasons, weather patterns, etc), weapon forming, stone and wood works and other technology such as steam and spring-based.

These men became powerful sages and wise men and humankind wondered at them. They were granted extra long life (250-300 years) but were forbidden to rule and have children.

Many great nations arose from these "Men of great renown" - Meridia, Harzi-i-Shai, Ruhk and Tarshi. Other nations followed the One True God / Creator and followed a different path.

Religion permeates all aspects of life in the world. Whether you are a commoner or a noble, a hermit or a city dweller, a member of a remote barbarian tribe or a scholar at the finest university, the divine powers that created the world and continuously shape its destiny will have a direct impact on your life.

Stanley Kubrick once said, “Everything has already been done, every story has been told, every scene has been shot. It’s our job to do it one better.” The World of Ebonyr seeks to do this by couching the unfamiliar in the familiar.

Introduction

The world of Ebonyr is not a pleasant one. Violence and desperation are common. The triumph of humanity’s survival in the face of near-apocalypse has brought a much harsher and crueler place than Earth. Large parts of the world's population live in brutal poverty; authoritarianism is far more widespread with democratic ideals on the periphery.

Both on a personal level and in the political arena, religion, to a large part, drives the societies of the world. Religious wars, strife and sectarian violence is prevalent.

Even though some people may choose to avoid interaction with the faiths No one denies the fact that the a higher power is always close and watching.
