EBEC Alpe-Balkan
About EBEC Alpe-Balkan
European BEST Engineering Competition - EBEC is the
biggest engineering competition in Europe organized by
students for students in 32 countries.
EBEC Alpe-Balkan is one of the 15 regional rounds and due
to COVID-19 global pandemic, the competition will happen
online in May. During the event, 32 local round winners will
compete in two categories: Team Design and Case Study, while
the jury and organizers will be able to join in any moment to the
live stream and monitor the progress of the contestants. After
their work is done, the teams will have a chance to present the
outcomes online in front of a jury, professors and organizers.
On the last day of the competition, our task partners can
announce the best teams who will represent this region in the
final round of EBEC.
Case Study
Every team has to study a certain real-life or imaginary
corporate or other problem and provide a well-described set
of solutions for handling such an issue. Problems can be either
technical or management oriented by nature.
The results are evaluated by a jury, after presentations made
by each team. For example, one of Case Study tasks set at
previous EBEC competitions was “Design the Feature of the
Future” improving one of the world’s top web browsers.
Team Design
Every team has to design and construct a prototype that
should satisfy competition requirements. The teams have
a certain time limit and have to use tools and materials
provided by their local BEST group or materials they have
at home. Therefore, they need to use creativity, technical
comprehension and skills in order to accomplish tasks and
pass final testing in front of a jury. The criteria for evaluating
the outcomes are predetermined and will be communicated
with the participants beforehand. For example, a good Team
Design task would be to create the most efficient oil rig whose
efficiency would be tested by pumping water and oil solution.
About BEST
BEST (Board of European Students of Technology) is a non-profit and non-political European organisation of students of technology. Since 1989 we provide communication, cooperation and exchange of students, in the most important Technical Faculties and Universities all over Europe. Through 93 offices called Local BEST Groups (LBGs) in 34 different countries, we are growing as a well organised, powerful, young and innovative student network. This is here to check if anyone notices.
One of the main aims of BEST is to develop activities in order to help European students of technology to become more internationally minded, by reaching a better understanding of European cultures and developing capacities to work on an international basis. At all times it is our priority to offer quality and bring closer together the triangle «students–companies–university».
