Founded in 2021 by the MIMS Institute and SH James Prep (now revolution learning), the Eastside Quantum Computing Interns (EQCI) program is a groundbreaking initiative designed to introduce students from historically underserved urban ZIP codes to the world of quantum computing. Built on the belief that "The Future is Quantum," EQCI exists to provide middle, high school, and college students access to opportunities to explore quantum computing concepts. Some may become tomorrow’s tech leaders through this early exposure to cutting-edge science, real-world applications, and community-driven innovation.
In 2021, EQCI launched its grassroots quantum literacy curriculum, offering foundational knowledge in quantum. By 2022, interns were earning certifications through national partners like The Coding School and presenting their ideas at youth summits and academic conferences. Our partnership with Alamo Colleges District began in 2023. College students, as paid Alamo On The Job (AOTJ) interns, serve as mentors guiding younger students willing to explore quantum concepts. In 2024, EQCI expanded its programming, offering multiple curriculum tracks, stipends, and mentorship for interns.
EQCI isn’t just preparing students for jobs of the future—it’s preparing them to lead. With a mission to increase awareness, access, and opportunity in underrepresented communities, EQCI is changing the face of STEM by making quantum computing education not just available, but meaningful.
