DAY OF WALK-A-THON
Family members are invited (and encouraged!) to come cheer on your student. Walk times will be distributed the week before Walk-a-Thon. You can watch from the sidelines or even walk with your child. Younger children are also welcome to attend. We just ask that you provide supervision and keep them away from the playground equipment. Sorry - but pets are not welcome. If you would like to volunteer during Walk-a-Thon, please email LeahBKrull@gmail.com.
If you are attending Walk-a-Thon, please park in the parking lot. Walk through the bus lot, through the gate and back to the playground. There will be a police officer at the gate. You are not permitted to block the buses or drive through the gate. You do NOT need to sign in at the office to attend Walk-a-Thon.
WHAT IS WALK-A-THON
Walk-a-Thon is the biggest fundraiser of the year and we couldn’t do that without the help and support of all of you. 100% of the contributions from our Walk-a-Thon are gifted back to our school. Donations in any amount are appreciated and are also tax-deductible. EHPTO uses Walk-a-Thon as our main fundraiser and its success towards our annual fundraising goal means parents won't be inundated with fundraising requests throughout the year. School fees and district budgets only go so far. The money raised goes to support our teachers by allowing them to add classroom supplies, school necessities and curriculum enhancements and also to developing our students by providing additional experiences in and out of the classroom. Our goal for 2025 is to raise $15,000.
Here is just a quick glimpse at some of the ways your donations made a difference to our school in the 2024-25 school year:
Class Field Trip Transportation, Assemblies, and AG Lab visit
Field Day & Kona Ice Visits
Free events for students and families, such as Grandparents & Goodies; Donuts & Grownups; Family Fall Fest, Daddy/ Daughter and Mother/Son Dances; All-Grade Holiday party and more!
Teacher Appreciation & Mini Grants for curriculum enhancements
HOW IS MONEY RAISED?
Each student will receive 10 blank address labels, including your own! As a family, identify the names and addresses of 9 friends, neighbors, co-workers, and relatives (even those who live far away.) It is best if an adult neatly addresses the labels. You are welcome to list more – your teacher will have blank labels as needed. For those families with more than one child at East Hanover, it is not necessary to submit 10 labels for each child. Each sibling will be credited for the number of labels that are returned.
Labels are to be returned to school by Monday, September 29! Once the labels are returned, a postcard will be sent asking the individuals identified to sponsor the students during the Walk-a-Thon. The postcards will be addressed and mailed by the fundraising committee and the money is returned to the school. There will be an option to pay with a credit card using PayPal or Venmo. The PTO will notify families when a gift has come in sponsoring their child.
Important: Please only list addresses of people with whom you have a relationship and are not already on the mailing list (i.e. do not list addresses of other East Hanover families). The PTO provides the postage and would like to reach as many people as possible who would like to invest in the lives of your children.
HOW DO I MOTIVATE MY STUDENT? Prizes, Prizes, Prizes!!
Individual Prizes: Each time a family brings in their list of 10 names with addresses, each sibling in that family will receive a prize. (10 completed labels = 1 prize per sibling)
Top Leaper Prizes: The grades with the most labels collected by Monday, September 29 will win:
Grand Prize: A class ice cream AND pizza party
Second Place Prize: A class ice cream party
Met Our Goal Prize: If our school goal of $15,000 is met TBD
