Arnus, better known on Earth as Augustus Freeman and later as Icon, is an ancient being who abandoned a perfect collective civilization to live among humanity. After crash-landing on Earth and assuming the form of a dying human child, he lived for centuries as an ordinary man despite possessing extraordinary stellar abilities. Witnessing both the noblest and darkest aspects of humanity, he gradually lost his original purpose, until a chance encounter with Raquel Ervin reminded him of who he truly was. Reclaiming his identity as Icon, he once again became a protector of both Earth and the cosmos.
Arnus originated from the Cooperative, a civilization defined by perfect unity and collective belonging. The Cooperative sought to create an ideal society by assimilating exceptional worlds into its collective consciousness, while casting into space those who rejected becoming part of the whole. Although considered perfect by his people, Arnus abandoned that existence, becoming what could only be described as a fallen angel—leaving behind perfection while also losing the certainty of who he was.
His journey eventually brought him to Earth, where his vessel crashed into a cotton field. Upon arriving, the first thing he encountered was the lifeless body of a young boy. Fragile and alone, Arnus assumed the child's appearance. Moments later, the boy's mother discovered what she believed was her son alive once again and brought him home, unknowingly raising a being from another world as her own child.
On Earth, Arnus ceased to be an alien or a symbol of perfection. He became simply a man. Taking the name Augustus Freeman, he quietly lived among humanity while secretly using his immense stellar powers to protect those around him. His gifts of healing and light eventually earned him the name Icon.
As decades turned into centuries, Augustus experienced every stage of the human condition. He worked countless professions, fell in love, built families, witnessed generations grow old and pass away, fought for civil rights, endured persecution, and saw humanity repeatedly blur the line between divinity and mortality through both extraordinary compassion and terrible cruelty. Though effectively immortal, he continuously reinvented himself through new identities while remaining emotionally tied to humanity.
Eventually, however, the endless passage of time wore him down. Having accumulated immense wealth and isolated himself inside a vast mansion in Dakota City, Augustus gradually forgot the man he had once become. He no longer remembered why he had chosen humanity or what purpose had brought him to Earth. Surrounded by luxury but consumed by loneliness, he withdrew from the world almost entirely.
Everything changed when a group of local teenagers broke into his seemingly abandoned mansion. Hidden beneath the estate rested Arnus' ancient spacecraft—the very vessel that had carried him to Earth thousands of years before. During the break-in, a young girl named Raquel Ervin was injured after accidentally activating the damaged ship's ancient core, unleashing a tremendous burst of cosmic energy.
When Arnus awoke after the explosion, Raquel looked upon him not as the forgotten recluse Augustus Freeman, but as the being he had once been. Calling him by his true name—Arnus—she reminded him of the purpose he himself had forgotten. To her, he was more than a hero; he was an Icon.
Inspired by Raquel's unwavering belief in what he could still become, Arnus embraced the identity of Icon once again. Rather than seeing himself as an immortal hiding from humanity, he accepted his place as a symbol capable of inspiring others through both action and example.
Recognizing that the universe still needed protectors, Icon resumed his mission, crossing the cosmos with his stellar abilities as both a guardian and benefactor. At the same time, Raquel embraced her own destiny, eventually founding the Blood Syndicate, a group of young heroes inspired by the ideals she had discovered through him.
Although Raquel would become his first disciple and greatest believer, Icon's own journey continued beyond Earth. No longer defined by the perfection he abandoned or the ordinary life he once tried to disappear into, Arnus finally reconciled both identities. He became everything he had never attempted to be before: not merely an outsider living among humanity, but a true protector whose greatest strength lies in inspiring hope wherever his path leads.
