Meggan Puceanu, later known as Gloriana, is a mutant empath and metamorph whose existence has always been deeply connected to emotion, magic, and the mystical energies of the Otherworld. Born within an isolated Romani community in Europe, Meggan spent most of her childhood hidden from humanity after her uncontrollable transformations caused others to believe she was a supernatural creature rather than a mutant.

Her life changed after meeting Brian Braddock, the hero known as Lord Britain. Through him, Meggan found companionship, purpose, and eventually became one of the central members of Excalibur. As her powers evolved, she grew beyond the role of mutant hero and became something far more mystical, a living embodiment of emotional and elemental forces tied directly to Avalon and the magical fabric of reality itself.

Early Life

Meggan Puceanu was born in a remote mountainous region of Eastern Europe, descending from an ancient Romani lineage strongly tied to folklore, mysticism, and supernatural traditions. From infancy, her mutation manifested in unstable and frightening ways. Her body constantly reacted to emotions, environmental changes, and the perceptions of the people around her.

If others feared her as a monster, her appearance became monstrous. If they believed she resembled a spirit or faerie, her body adapted to reflect those expectations. Because of this, the people surrounding Meggan grew terrified of her existence.

The villagers believed she was cursed.

Some claimed she was a faerie child. Others thought she was a demon or forest spirit. Fear and superstition slowly transformed her childhood into complete isolation from humanity.

Meggan spent years hidden from the outside world, living near forests and abandoned areas while surviving almost entirely alone. Without proper human interaction, she learned about emotions, behavior, and identity mostly by observing distant people and unconsciously absorbing their feelings through her empathic mutation.

Meggan’s mutation was deeply connected to the emotional atmosphere surrounding her. Rather than simply controlling her powers consciously, her body instinctively responded to emotional energies around her.

For many years, Meggan herself genuinely believed she was not human, her life changed during the aftermath of the catastrophic events surrounding the Braddock family and Jamie Braddock’s descent into madness.

After confronting his brother and suffering psychological collapse, Brian Braddock awakened inside a small cottage near Doomstadt, suffering from amnesia and emotional exhaustion. Meggan had discovered him unconscious and decided to care for him during his recovery, while Brian slowly regained his memories, Meggan remained at his side, explaining how long he had been unconscious and telling him about the mysterious visitor who had appeared shortly before his awakening.

For Brian, Meggan became a source of emotional peace during one of the darkest periods of his life. For Meggan, Brian was the first person who truly looked at her without fear, their bond quickly deepened. Brian saw beyond her unstable appearance and recognized the kindness, innocence, and emotional sincerity hidden beneath years of isolation. Meggan, meanwhile, saw Brian not as the legendary Lord Britain, but as a deeply wounded man struggling beneath impossible expectations.
