biography
Early Life
Mal D’Angio was a gifted young Italian musician whose talent earned him an invitation to join the prestigious Teatro alla Scala Orchestra. His work composing music inspired by Commedia Dell’arte quickly caught the attention of the conductor, offering him what seemed to be the opportunity of a lifetime.
Yet, something was wrong.
Every time Mal performed with the orchestra, he became paralyzed consumed by the very melodies he created. The music did not feel like his own. It felt older. Alive. Haunting him with something he could not understand.
After exhausting every psychological explanation, his path crossed with the magician Zatanna Zatara during a performance at Teatro alla Scala. Sensing a powerful and ominous force surrounding him, she revealed the truth: Mal was not simply experiencing anxiety or artistic pressure he was being influenced by an ancient, supernatural presence.
Agreeing to help, Mal underwent a ritual meant to separate this force from his body. Through Zatanna’s magic, they were able to communicate with the entity, discovering it to be none other than the archangel Azrael. The being had chosen Mal as a vessel, believing him to be the key to uncovering a long-lost artifact of immense importance.

Guided by Azrael’s will, Mal and Zatanna descended into the hidden depths beneath the theater, uncovering a vast and ancient catacomb filled with occult inscriptions and forgotten magic. There, they found a sealed door one that could only be opened through the soul itself.
Zatanna stepped aside, this was no longer her path.
Understanding what was required, Mal embraced the force within him. Taking up his trumpet, he played a melody unlike anything heard before something ancient, something divine, something that resonated beyond human comprehension. The sound echoed through the chamber, unlocking the door as if responding to a call older than time itself.
Beyond it rested the artifact: Gabriel’s Horn.
In that moment, Mal ceased to be just a musician. He became a Herald, an instrument of something far greater than himself. The music he once struggled to control now defines him, binding his identity to celestial forces and responsibilities he is only beginning to understand.
As Zatanna left him behind, entrusting him with this new burden, Mal stood alone in the silence that followed, the stage was gone.

The angles collapsed, for the first time, Angelo Bend was captured.
Delivered to a local penitentiary, his reign as an untouchable criminal came to an abrupt end. To the world, it was a victory. To Herald, it would later become a quiet regret. Inside those walls, Angelo met Edgar Cizko.
What followed was not partnership but erasure.
Psyche stripped Angelo of identity, will, and autonomy, reshaping him into a controlled extension of his own power. The man Herald had defeated ceased to exist, replaced by something far more dangerous: a weapon guided by another mind.
Maxwell Lord saw beyond the surface. Where others saw a captured criminal, he saw a demonstration of control over forces that logic alone could not comprehend.
