Lost between reality and illusion, he no longer sees the world as it truly is. Every step he takes is guided by a fantasy only he can understand.
And the deeper he drifts, the harder it becomes to ever come back.
Jervis Tetch was once a patient at Arkham Asylum, known for his obsessive fixation on the life and works of Lewis Carroll. His mind, already unstable, found structure and comfort in the surreal logic of Wonderland, where nonsense had meaning and chaos followed its own rules.
After leaving Arkham, his reintegration into society was only superficial. Beneath the surface, his perception of reality remained fractured. Rather than seeking treatment, Jervis immersed himself in the study and distribution of psychotropic substances, seeing them not as escapes, but as tools to reshape consciousness itself.
Through experimentation with hallucinogenic mushrooms commonly consumed within Arkham, he developed a drug known as Bliss. Unlike conventional narcotics, Bliss was designed with a purpose: to dissolve the boundary between reality and imagination, allowing the user to fully inhabit their inner world.
To Jervis, this was not addiction. It was enlightenment.
Bliss proved to be dangerously effective. Users did not simply hallucinate, they became trapped within their own minds, experiencing vivid, immersive fantasies while their connection to the real world weakened. Over time, motor functions, speech, and awareness deteriorated, leaving behind individuals who were physically present, but mentally elsewhere.
Jervis became both creator and primary subject of his invention.
Now living in a permanent state of intoxication, he drifts through the world as if it were Wonderland itself. Strangers become characters, ordinary places transform into surreal landscapes, and every interaction is filtered through a dreamlike narrative only he can perceive.
What makes his condition more unsettling is its consistency. Unlike chaotic madness, his reality follows its own internal logic, one that he understands completely. In his mind, he is not lost. He is exactly where he is meant to be. Yet traces of the real world still linger at the edges. Moments of distortion, flickers where reality almost breaks through, only to be swallowed again by illusion. Whether these are signs of a mind trying to recover or simply deeper layers of delusion remains uncertain.
Jervis Tetch no longer seeks control over others.
