Speech-Language Pathologists are trained to diagnose and treat disorders that affect speech. These disorders can include pronunciation of speech sounds, language processing, literacy processing, pragmatics, voice issues, fluency (stuttering), cognitive communication, and feeding and swallowing disorders.

Salary: The average yearly salary for speech-language pathologists in California is $93,676.

Degrees and Certifications: Graduate Record Examination (GRE), Master's degree in Speech- Language Pathology, 36-week post-graduate clinical fellowship program, pass the Praxis Speech-Language Pathology examination, and apply for licensure through the California Board.

Bachelor's degree in Communication and Speech Disorders (CSD) is preferred but not required. Additional classes may be required in the master's program if the applicant does not have a Bachelor's degree in CDS.
