If you want deep active noise cancellation for sleep or travel, choose Back Bay Audio True; if you need a secure, open-ear fit for running and staying aware of your surroundings, choose 1Mii Open Ear Headphones.
• Back Bay Audio True: The clear winner for total sound isolation with AI-driven Active Noise Cancellation that avoids head pressure, but it is an in-ear design that blocks ambient noise completely. Best for travelers and insomniacs who need to shut the world out.
• 1Mii Open Ear Headphones: Offers a massive 48-hour battery life and a rotating earhook design that stays put during high-intensity workouts, but lacks true isolation since they sit outside the ear canal. Best for runners, cyclists, and gym-goers who need situational awareness.
The Back Bay Audio True Wireless Earbuds are engineered for one primary purpose: creating a silent bubble around you. These buds utilize A.I. to cancel noise from planes, trains, and traffic, which is a significant detail for anyone trying to find peace in chaotic environments. What stands out most is their specific claim of achieving this without causing the "head pressure" or ear fatigue that many users experience with standard noise-canceling technology. This makes them uniquely suitable for long-haul flights or, crucially, for falling asleep without feeling like your ears are being vacuumed out.
The audio performance is tuned for depth. If you are someone who listens to music while trying to drift off, the ability to switch between modes could be the difference between a restless night and a deep sleep. The Bluetooth 5.4 connectivity ensures a stable connection with a range of 30 feet, so you aren't tethered to your phone even when moving around the bedroom.
However, this product is not for everyone. Because these are in-ear buds designed to seal the ear canal, they block out all ambient sound, including safety warnings or alarms. If you are a light sleeper who needs to hear the smoke alarm or a baby crying, the ANC feature might actually work against you. While this is light, the in-ear form factor means they will physically occupy your ear canal, which some people simply cannot tolerate for extended periods. You should skip this pick if you plan to wear them while jogging on a busy street or if you prioritize hearing your environment over blocking it out.
The 1Mii Open Ear Headphones take a radically different approach by abandoning the in-ear seal entirely. Instead, they use a patented 180-degree rotating earhook design that adapts to your specific ear shape. This isn't just a minor adjustment; it is a core engineering decision meant to provide a pressure-free fit that remains secure even when you are sprinting or engaging in high-intensity interval training. The material used is skin-friendly TPE, which suggests a soft touch against the skin, and the open-ear design ensures that your ear canal remains completely unobstructed. This makes them ideal for outdoor activities where hearing traffic, pedestrians, and announcements is non-negotiable for safety.

Battery life is where the 1Mii truly distinguishes itself. The specifications list an impressive 48 hours of total playtime when using the charging case, with a single charge delivering up to 16 hours of continuous playback. This is nearly double the total capacity of the Back Bay Audio True. For a commuter or a runner who doesn't want to think about charging their device every other day, this is a game-changer. The case itself doubles as a smart organizer box, capable of holding small items like jewelry or medication, adding a layer of utility beyond just audio. The IPX5 water-resistance rating further cements their place in a sports-focused lineup, ensuring they can handle sweat and rain without issue.
In an open-ear design, a larger driver helps push more air to create a wider soundstage, delivering crystal-clear highs despite the lack of a seal. They also support Bluetooth 6.0, offering a newer standard for connectivity compared to the 5.4 in the competitor. However, because they do not seal the ear, there is no Active Noise Cancellation. You will hear everything around you. If you are looking for these earbuds to drown out a crying baby or the hum of an airplane engine, they will fail you. They are strictly for when you want to be part of the world, not removed from it.
• Best for total silence and sleep → Back Bay Audio True. The AI-driven Active Noise Cancellation is the only feature here that actively removes environmental sound, making it the superior choice for rest.
• Best for battery longevity → 1Mii Open Ear Headphones. With 48 hours of total playtime versus 25 hours for the Back Bay, the 1Mii lasts almost twice as long on a single charge cycle.
• Best for safety during outdoor runs → 1Mii Open Ear Headphones. The open-ear design allows you to hear traffic and sirens, whereas the Back Bay Audio True creates a dangerous blind spot for commuters.
• Best for bass lovers → Back Bay Audio True. The combination of the in-ear seal and the dedicated Bass Mode provides a deeper, more impactful low-frequency response than the open design of the 1Mii.
• Best for secure sports fit → 1Mii Open Ear Headphones. The 180-degree rotating earhooks are specifically engineered to stay in place during vigorous movement, a feature the standard bud shape of the Back Bay lacks.
• Best for gaming latency → Back Bay Audio True. At 20 milliseconds, the low latency is optimized for syncing audio with video, a critical spec for mobile gamers that the 1Mii does not explicitly highlight.
• Best for multi-purpose utility → 1Mii Open Ear Headphones. The case functions as a jewelry or pill organizer, adding value beyond audio that the standard carrying case of the Back Bay does not offer.
• Best for modern connectivity → 1Mii Open Ear Headphones. Featuring Bluetooth 6.0, these offer the latest wireless standard, potentially providing better stability and efficiency than the Bluetooth 5.4 in the Back Bay.
In my opinion, I would buy the Back Bay Audio True for personal relaxation and travel. The promise of AI-driven noise cancellation without head pressure is a compelling solution for the modern problem of sensory overload. While the 1Mii has incredible battery life, the ability to completely disconnect from the noise of a plane or a noisy apartment is a feature I value more highly. The Back Bay Audio True offers a premium listening experience that actively protects your peace, making it the smarter investment for anyone seeking quiet in a loud world.
Yes, the Back Bay Audio True is specifically designed for sleep with AI noise cancellation that avoids the uncomfortable head pressure common in other models, though the 1Mii is too open for effective sleep isolation.
Yes, the 1Mii features patented 180-degree rotating earhooks and an IPX5 water-resistant rating, making them secure and durable for high-intensity sports and heavy sweating.
The 1Mii Open Ear Headphones have the longer battery life, offering up to 48 hours of total playtime with the case, compared to the 25 hours provided by the Back Bay Audio True.
It is not recommended for safe running because the active noise cancellation blocks out all ambient sound, meaning you won't hear approaching cars or traffic warnings while outdoors.
