Hello and welcome! My name is Emily Potvin!
I am a spring 2023 graduate from Grand Canyon University with an Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education K-6. I am excited to start my teaching degree and help shape the minds of young children. I was born in St. Cloud, MN and lived in Kimball, MN unit adulthood. I moved away for 3 years and then made my way back to the wonderful small town of Kimball. I have always had a passion for helping others, especially children and help shape their minds, which has helped me down the path in achieving my goal of an elementary teacher.
When I was in elementary school, I always thought I would be a teacher. Upon high school graduation I made the choice to expand and explore my horizons . I stayed in the medical field as a nursing assistant in several different facilities for fourteen years. I ended up opening my own daycare for 7 years, but roughly 3 years in, I decided to fulfill my dreams of becoming a teacher. I stayed in doing my daycare for the entity of my college journey through Grand Canyon University until my student teaching started. I fulfilled my student teaching through Eden Valley Elementary. Upon completion of my student teaching and degree completion, I am currently working as a preschool teacher through the New Horizon Academy.
Please feel free to explore my digital teaching portfolio to find out more about me and my teaching philosophies!

Positive learning environments are fostered by deliberate classroom management and practices. Security is the key component in creating an effective and positive learning environment. Children need to see and feel that they can take chances while learning new things, are free to engage in sincere conversations, are treated with respect and trust, and see pleasant connections. Consistancy is key and it is never to late to apply this in the classroom.
I'll employ a system for managing the classroom that promotes a productive learning environment. The regulations and requirements for the classroom must be clearly understood by the students. Maintaining clear, concise guidelines is especially crucial when interacting with young children. Promoting student involvement and fostering pleasant interactions between the teacher and other students are two benefits of engaging students in the classroom. We need to develop a positive action curriculum that teaches kids that positive actions result in good feelings, a positive self-image, better decision-making and problem-solving skills, better body care, the ability to treat others with respect, the ability to own up to our mistakes and take responsibility, and the ability to set goals.
Children should, in my opinion, also be recognized and given encouragement. Children should be taught to value the feelings of pride they experience when they make wise decisions, create great work, or handle a quarrel with grace, in addition to the enjoyment and niceness of earning little stickers and prizes. Success must be shared with parents. To foster deep connections and family involvement, I will email, call, and share personal accomplishments with my parents. Teachers who engage with parents on a regular basis foster two-way communication and shared objectives. In order to get their feedback and support, my classroom management system will try to communicate successes, objectives, and difficulties to families.
Since there is no one-size-fits-all approach to classroom management, as a teacher, I will work to tailor my approach to each student's unique learning and behavioral needs. Finally, I'll make an effort to get to know everyone of my students. recognizing their preferences. understanding what drives them and what sets them off. I'll honor each child's individuality and respect it. Many teachers have such a limited concentration on the material and the standards that they neglect to consider the unique needs and characteristics of each student in the classroom. I want to create the ideal environment in my classroom for meaningful learning and personal development, so I've taken the time to cultivate and develop this atmosphere.
