The orchard and meadow are entirely managed by local volunteers.
Management tasks are very seasonal, so rather than regular meetings, we meet when there's work to do.
When something needs doing, we choose a date and invite people from our list of volunteers to come along and help. Typically we spend half a day at a time.
We don't work too hard, we chat a lot and enjoy a bit of useful exercise in a lovely spot and good company.
If you think you might enjoy helping us, please get in touch using our contact details at the foot of the Home Page.
Winter pruning to shape the apple and pear trees as they grow.
A quick job while the trees are small. If you haven't done any pruning before we can show you how.
Summer pruning to shape the plum and gage trees as they grow.
Spring and autumn wild flower sowing transplanting plants and sowing seed to add wild flowers to the meadow.
Summer scything traditional style hay meadow cutting.
We cut the meadow a quarter at a time in May, June, July and August. This suits a range of wild plants which flower at different times. It also breaks a big job into easy half day chunks for a few people with scythes.
If you would like to have a go at scything (it's easier than you might expect) we are happy to get you started.
Hay making we hope to start making hay with our cut grass in 2023.
Events with cake our 2022 cake picnic was very popular.
Lots of home baking, helping set up, serving out, getting covered in jam and chocolate.
Winter hedge laying traditional style hedge management. We hope to start this in winter 2022-23. If you haven't done any before, it's a very satisfying craft to learn.
