Fairfax HS Pyramid Virtual Choir Invitation
Dear Parents,
As we face unprecedented times in our schools, it is more important than ever for us as a pyramid to provide opportunities to bring our students closer together across schools and grade levels. Additionally, while elementary chorus will not be scheduled this fall, we hope to fill that void for the students, many whose social and emotional well-being is tied to singing, and the larger musical community.
The Fairfax High School Choral department has invited our Pyramid chorus singers to participate in an amazing opportunity. The Elementary, Middle, and High School choir directors have decided to give all of our Pyramid choir singers the chance to create the first ever Fairfax Pyramid Virtual Choir. We have chosen to perform Walk Through Life by renowned musical artist Pinkzebra. Elementary students will also learn and record a second virtual song - A Winter Blast! Students will be given the opportunity to participate in several online rehearsals with our middle and high school directors and will receive all needed material as well as instructions and practice on how to record themselves using software and technology they already have!.
Once the recording is made, all of the submissions will be sent to a sound engineer who will edit them (each singer requires about 1 hour of editing by a professional), and then piece the individual recordings back together to create a virtual choir. Our final products will be shared with our community as part of our December 10 Virtual Pyramid Concert. Each singer will also receive a Fairfax Choir t-shirt to wear for the recording and keep forever.
While we have never charged students to participate in our Pyramid Honor Choir before, the cost of a sound engineer to create these virtual choirs is significant. We are asking families for $24 per singer for this optional enrichment opportunity. This covers their $5 t-shirt, $2 music & tracks, and the sound engineer cost of $17/student. If you are unable to afford this, please reach out to your music teacher so we can try to assist.
Our virtual rehearsals will take place on Mondays from 12:30-1:15. It’s built right into the day! We will begin September 28 and run until October 26 (no rehearsal on Oct. 12.) On November 2 I will have an open tech session if you as a parent need help with the recording.
Please indicate your intent to participate by filling out the form below no later than September 21. After that, you will receive additional emails from Ms. Woodill with instructions to access our google classroom and our virtual practice sessions!
