Because Elder Abuse sits at the intersection of two issues that society doesn't like to acknowledge - aging and intentional harm to others - it's tempting to keep quiet about it, to pretend that it doesn't exist. Unfortunately, it's this kind of social response that allows EA to continue unabated.
Given their work to build more inclusive, respectful, and supportive communities for people of all ages, Age-Friendly organizations are well-positioned to bring attention to the issue of Elder Abuse - to make some noise that can not only bring about better outcomes for individuals, but create the changes in social values and structures needed reduce the prevalence of EA.
Make that noise and generate greater community awareness of and commitment to ending the injustice of Elder Abuse with the topics covered in Module 2: How to Talk about EA; How to Use Stories to Create EA Awareness; and How to Build a Local Public Awareness Campaign for EA.
