It is possible! Due to our tutoring initiative from the school year, we will have several tutors available during the summer program. These tutors are college students that have been trained in I Would Rather Be Reading's Trauma Informed Reading Mentor curriculum. However, some of the Leadership Counselors have not worked as tutors previously and have not received training. You are welcome to ask your Leadership Counselor if they were trained as a Tutor for us. If so, they can tutor during the day as well.
Hubs must be open five days a week, Monday through Friday.
Your program may operate at its own discretion. JCPS supports will be provided June 16 - July 11. Evolve502 supports will be provided July 14 - 31.
It should be noted first that any JCPS or any additional personnel will attend your site in a support capacity. The overall facilitation of your program from the beginning of the programming day to the end of the programming day should be undertaken by staff and volunteers at your organization.
That said, In addition to teachers, we are working on compiling a team of support personnel to be attached directly to your site that includes, but may not limited to: Mental Health Practitioners (MHPs), School Counselors, Family Resource Youth Service Coordinators (FRYSCs).
A team of these individuals will be assigned to 2-3 summer programming sites. They will support a manageable "caseload" of students to ensure that they will not be overwhelmed, and will still be able to provide a high-level of service to your site.
More information will be forthcoming soon.
We are working to staff sites at no more than a 25:1, student to teacher ratio
As this is not a tutoring situation, teachers will work with groups.
We are constantly assessing numbers to understand what ratios are available. Our goal is to provide student to teacher ratios of no more than 25:1.
College student will also be available to work as Tutors/Leadership Counselors (this is supplemental).
You will need a refrigeration that can store enough meals for your students each day
No, you do not have to use JCPS Nutrition Services for breakfast and lunch
Note: If you use JCPS Nutrition Services for meals, you cannot use another service provider (i.e. Dare to Care)
If you have a college student that has been working at your site or has worked at your site in a previous initiative you and/or the college student may request that they be placed at your site once again.
Sites will be paid $300 per student for the summer program. There WILL be an attendance requirement for the second payment, as determined by the JCPS 3rd day count.
Sites will be paid two times.
The hours of the program are 9:30am - 2:00pm (ELEMENTARY) and 8:00am - 1:00pm (MIDDLE/HIGH). However, sites must open at 9:00am/7:30am and remain open until at least 2:30pm/1:30pm. This is so that buses are able to complete their routes for Elementary and Middle/High school students. Elementary students will ride different buses than Middle/High school students.
Note: The summer learning initiative will provide transportation in a 5 mile radius of their home
We are currently looking into this matter.
JCPS has created a website that families can use to sign up for available spots in programs. By signing up, and letting us know how many open spaces you have, we can better determine how to market your site.
We will generate one registration site that all sites may send around to their constituencies. The goal is to have one single point of engagement to ensure that parents and community are not confused in making the best choices for their families.
