In Lieu of an Editorial

With great privilege and dedication, we welcome you to the inaugural issue of The Paper Lantern, the e-magazine of the Department of English, Bhattadev University. The very first issue of The Paper Lantern introduces not merely the foundation but it pioneers a way for a literary journey of immense creativity, imagination and thoughtful reflection. This piece of composition serves as a platform of artistic sanctuary for expression and imagination, a catalyst for critical engagement, weaving together diverse forms of literature and art. Literature and art have always served as mirrors of society and windows into the human soul. In an age dominated by rapidly evolving communication outlets and fleeting attention spans, creative expression remains a powerful means of reflection, connection and understanding. This e-magazine seeks to reflect and preserve the diverse voices, emotions and perspectives of our contributors and come up with a compilation of diverse sections ranging from poetry, flash fiction, visual narrative to review essays and conversations. The poetry section invites readers to a world of rhythm, emotion and imagination. Complementing the poetry is a selection of flash fiction: stories that demonstrate the remarkable power of brevity. Adding a visual dimension to this issue is our photography section. In the remaining two columns, we have tried to venture into the realm of the mind by engaging in conversations with people and the worlds they aspire to create.

The Paper Lantern is a powerful metaphor that resonates with light, inspiration and vision. Just as the sun or a lantern enlightens the darkness of mankind, this e-magazine, we hope will enlighten the realm of thought. As you scroll through these digital pages, we invite you to immerse yourself in the worlds honed by our contributors. May this edition inspire creativity, spark meaningful conversations and remind us all of the transformative power that art and literature hold onto us. With this very first glimmer of The Paper Lantern, we are hopefully looking forward to a perpetual quest for creativity. We would like to mention that we have used 'open source' sketches from the internet in decorating the panels. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all the contributors, faculty members and well wishers, whose immense dedication and enthusiasm have made this beginning possible. May this radiant lantern continue to spread and shower light on our Department of English, Bhattadev University.
