Concept

The idea behind the electronic flora was conceptualised by Department of Botany and in 2022, Pawan Tete, research scholar and postgraduate students of Botany- Lokesh, Prathamesh and Niraj initiated this project by collecting, dissecting and digitizing the flora in the areas in and around the Nagpur city. This work was initiated as a part of MSc project work which was completed under the supervision of Dr. A. A. Fulzele. The aim of this database is to provide information for easy identification of the local flora by common people and students and teachers of life sciences.

The collected plants have been described in two ways:  based on families and based on morphological form. The family-wise plant identification will be useful for people with botany background. The individual floral whorls have been uploaded for ease of identification. For citizens interested in identifying a plant, morphological form is important; hence the second group. The current collection has 40 families and _________ genera. The families have been classified in accordance with Angiosperm Phylogeny Group IV (APG IV) accepted in 2016. The plant forms are categorised into six categories-trees, shrubs, herbs, climbers, grasses, and succulents- for easy differentiation

This project by PG students  is a continuous work aiming to encompass the Nagpur city in the coming years.
