I grew up in a 950 sq. foot home in Detroit, Michigan with my 2 brothers and a single mother who cleaned offices. I attended Detroit Public Schools (Carver Elementary to Cody High School). I managed on to continue my education by attending Henry Ford community college. After the two years there, I attended University of Michigan Dearborn to achieve my bachelors degree in Biochemistry. Besides all the science courses that I took and truely enjoyed, everthing from Biology, Physics to Organic Chemistry, there was a certain connection I had with Immunology- and without that connection I wouldn't be involved in the ArtPrize today. After graduating, I continued my part time work as an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) technician, while I applied for and got into a 15 month program to receive my second Bachelorette Degree in Nursing, from Wayne State University (WSU) in their special CD2 program. Then I began working at Grace Hospital, as a Nurse in the ICU, soon I would be accepted into the Anesthesia Program at WSU and achieved a Masters Degree in Anesthesia, in 1999.
I love going to work each day knowing and hoping that I am able to help people in some way. My job is very gratifying, and I'm very thankful for each opportunity I get.
I officially started working as a nurse anesthetist in October of 1999. I have loved what I do ever since. It has led me to some great people and taught me great lessons.
