Testing for Dyslexia
Scottish Rite in Dallas. One of the best resources Texas has to offer in dyslexia testing is Scottish Rite. You will have to drive from Austin to Dallas for testing, but the testing can be free. A wait time of 3 to 6 months can be expected. You must complete an application and mail it in, and Scottish Rite will make a determination to accept or reject the application. Call 214-559-5000 and ask them to email you an application.
Austin ISD. We have found the wait time to vary greatly, but those of us who were tested by AISD suggest expecting a 3 month or longer wait.

Resources to Use at Home
Audio Books (Learning Ally is available to many AISD students. Contact your teacher for login information)
Read to your child. Make reading fun by finding a book they like and reading it to them. For a few books recommend by children with dyslexia, click here.
Do the homework from the program your child is in (Take Flight, etc.). Do not skip that homework. It is important and reinforces the concepts learned. If you do have classroom homework, talk to the teacher about having the dyslexia program homework substitute.
