The career that I have decided to pursue is mechanical engineering. What sparked this interest was a career day in elementary school, where an electrical engineer showed off his own RGB lantern. From there, I've always been interested in the engineering field, later deciding on mechanical engineering. I picked the engineering program at the tech center because it is the best way to lead me to a degree in mechanical engineering.
Math is one of the most important subjects when it comes to engineering, and it works very well with me because I have always enjoyed math and exceled at it. This year I'm taking an AP calculus class to set me up for next year as well as possible. So far at the tech center, I have learned how to use many applications to help build my future, such as google sites and resume tools. I'm sure that in the future I will have learned and mastered plenty more things just from the class.
I am a three sport student-athlete, meaning I do a sport in the Fall, Winter, and the spring. My freshman year, I only did football and Outdoor Track & Field. Since Sophomore year I have been playing Indoor track & field in the winter, as well as Football and Outdoor Track, becoming a three sport student-athlete. Being a part of these teams has taught be many important life skills such as leadership, humbleness, teamwork, and respect. I have never had a job before but I do many other activities outside of school. I am a huge part of my church, doing things such as being on the worship team as the lead guitar player, helping set up events for the youth group, and playing in my church's softball league.
As of right now, after high school I am fully planning on going to a 4-year college, majoring for mechanical engineering. I plan on applying for dual-enrollment classes for the College of Southern Maryland while I'm still in high school. My hopes are that in college I can be a student-athlete in one of the sports I love(track & field and football). Considering that I am only a junior, I'm confident my plans and college goals will change significantly in the next year.
After graduating college I dream of making a professional football team. As my dad always told me, "When you go to college, you need to study the highest major that you can. Plan A is to get into the NFL, and if that doesn't work, you have a degree to get you a job to build a family on." The major that he mentioned is mechanical engineering, as I've decided. I believe that majoring in mechanical engineering is the perfect fit for me. If plan A doesn't work, I plan on getting a high paying job, moving back to where I grew up(Southern Maryland), and building my own life from said job.
