A really wonderful thing happened last week. I saw on fnac that Les Héros Ne Meurent Jamais will be released on DVD: Jan. 13, 2021. You can pre order HERE . The chances of the disc to be released in other countries including the US are now really possible. In addition there's the potential for streaming. Just guessing this film will be widely available for streaming.
Also with the new month, films on the Criterion Channel get added and dropped. And on the drop list for December 1st are three Céline Sciamma films. Water Lilies, Tomboy and Girlhood. I would say this is a nothing burger, for those of us that collect media on disc, except Criterion streams in HD and Water Lilies is not on Blu-ray. So unless this moves to another service, or shows up on iTunes in HD, it's 480p from now on. I have to say Water Lilies looks amazing on disc.. and 480p looks very clean. Tomboy and Girlhood are both available on Blu-ray. Those who don't have Water Lilies on DVD, will find it somewhere on line.. but I would expect it to be in poor quality. I would also expect the region 1 discs to be even more expensive on the secondary markets.
The could be easily fixed with a Blu-ray release.. and HD availability on iTunes for example. My guess is the region 1 discs would drop down to about 30$. Region 2 is looking good. The film is still in print in France and very affordable.
Last week this story dropped in the Hollywood Reporter.
Amazon argues users don't actually own purchased prime video content.
This is a must read. And it really comes down to how much films mean to you. And how much access you need to this artform. And how much money you want to spend and what it all means. This is why we get our films on DVD and Blu-ray. If anyone takes our discs, it's theft. However with digital content it's completely different. I think the word "purchase" and "sale" should just be removed from all movie downloads. They all have DRM. And without the server permissions you can't view the file. It's set up differently and it confuses so many customers.
The last thing I want to mention, was that I fell in love with the photos Plain Archive released of the Portrait screenplay. And they announced a second sale. So I jumped into it right when they went on sale. And I was lucky and I got one. I told myself that if I got one I would have to learn French, because I refuse to have a useless object in my home. And a book I can't read would be exactly that. I'm not sure when they will ship, but I'm looking forward to reading it.. in French.

Big update this weekend.. Just passed 100 DVD's on the site. I also added a few Blu-ray's.
This week the Portrait script shipped from Plain Archive. They released some incredible photos. I added them all to the Portrait page.
Also, I now have all thirteen Portrait DVD's scanned and up. Just four more Blu-ray's to add. Hopefully this will present a comprehensive picture of this wonderful film on disc.
Also, still waiting for Plain Archive to drop the DVD/BD.. should be soon.
We are getting close to the end of what could be the most difficult year in many of our lives.. Next year.. we are hoping for Les Héros Ne Meurent Jamais to be made more widely available, and a DVD/BD for Portrait from Japan.

Just a quick note to mention that all of the movie thumbnails on the main page, have the image of the French DVD cover. It did take some time to collect all of them. But they are all there now. And I'm really happy about that. Not to mention actually having all the French DVD's. That was a primary goal. The exceptions are of course, Déchaînées (Switzerland) , The Forbidden Room (Canada), and Die Blumen Von Gestern (Germany) , these being films not made in France.

Today I added two Blu-ray discs to the site. I was able to section the main movie pages. I'm happy with how the page looks.
Deerskin will be released on DVD and Blu-ray in Australia on November 4. As far as I know, this will be the only way to get this film on Blu-ray with English subs. Australia is region B. You can pre-order here :
My project for next year, will be to go through all of the discs, and note the UPC's, catalog and distributor's. As well as detail out all of the bonus content. And other relevant details. It's a huge task. But I'm looking forward to it.. I have been putting it to the side for a while.

Last week Adèle's new film Les Héros Ne Meurent Jamais opened in France. I have read mixed reviews. However, the bits that I have seen, and the many viewer reactions, makes me think that this film has some depth, a solid story and brilliant performances. Can not wait to see it!!
Here is a photo posted on line by the Die Blumen Von Gestern team, showing the DVD on sale in Germany, back when it was first released, #3 best seller. So cool, I wanted to share it.
Over the summer Water Lilies was released theatrically in Korea. They had some beautiful promo art created. I have not heard how the film did. But I'm happy more people can enjoy it. And I hope this film will be released on DVD and Blu-ray in Korea.

Site progression: There are now 84 DVD's on the site. I have 20 in hand to upload, and 18 on order. That brings the total soon to 122 DVD's. Keep in mind I'm avoiding excessive duplication and most re-issues. There are approximately 12 DVD's I'm looking for.
I think by next weekend I will be ready to start uploading Blu-rays. I have 4 in hand, and 8 on order.
I have hit the storage issue, that I'm so familiar with in collecting other things. I give myself a fixed space. And if I go over, something comes out, so something new can come in. But that's not going to work in this case. Also I have other DVD's and Blu-ray's of other films and TV shows. Getting up 200 DVD's is hardly excessive in todays collecting world.
I found good sturdy thick plastic bins. However, all of my media is currently in wood cases and drawers. The plus is that the bins are light. If I move, just wrap tape around and go. I'm going to keep looking. But maybe I will pick up one. The reason I prefer hardwood cases, is in case of a earthquake. If something falls on my CD's they are less likely be to damaged. The CD cases are DJ road cases, so they don't make them for DVD's. Just 45's, CD's and LP's.
Plastic Bins
About a week or so ago the Japanese movie poster for Portrait Of A Lady On Fire was released. It's jaw dropping. I know it moves away from the stark beauty of the French original. But this is just magical. Movie posters to me should invoke an element of fantasy and drama and this one is just perfect. It reminds me of the classic movie posters of the 70's.
Keeping on the subject of movie posters.. These two English/Orphan and Korean/Orpheline are just beautiful. And it would be incredible to have DVD releases for this film for the US and Korea using this design for the cover.
English
Korea
Also Noémie's film Jumbo is available for Pre-Order (click the image) . I wouldn't wait if you want a hard copy of this film. Her DVD's are dried up and tough to find in any region. And collector prices are being asked for some.
The only Blu-ray so far is from Sweden. And this shop does not ship to the US. Hopefully this will come to the US in disc form
On Wednesday Sept 30(In three days!), Adèle's new film Les Heros Ne Meurent Jamais will be released in France. I hope it has a spectacular opening. And with covid, it could be a while before there's a new Adèle film. It could be two years. One thing is certain. Next year, movie theatres, VOD services, On-line rentals and downloads and DVD's manufactures and distributers will be starving for new content, to keep subscribers and cash flow rolling in. I'm hoping Adèle's and Noémie's film catalog will get some attention in the US next year. It's well deserved, and there's the perfect opportunity to do so.

The screenplay offered by Plain Archive was a instant sell out. The international copies went in under a minute, and the rest within the hour. Congrats to everyone who got a copy! The demand is certainly there for either more copies of this, or a future edition. I hope it will be printed in the future. All signs I have seen point to that not happening. But the great thing is that the Korean edition of the Portrait DVD will be released soon. And Plain Archive said they are working on making these special. And in looking at the quality of DVD's I received from them already, I'm expecting Criterion level quality. Not sure if their Blu-ray will be 4K though.
I am moving forward collecting Blu-ray discs. I have six Adéle Blu-ray discs on order. I currently have two. I have Portrait Criterion edition and the Taiwan Blu-ray. The six I ordered are, (4) Portrait edition's, Belgium Orpheline, and US In the Name of my Daughter. I'm still picking up DVD's, so the Blu-ray's will be slow going acquiring them.
I have been checking out blu-ray.com. I want to learn about the technology. Also to learn the best approach to buying them. They vary in quality, and they are expensive. There are a whole bunch of collectors who have shelfs, rooms filled with DVD's and Blu-Ray's. My issue is finding movies that I like, much less want to own. Also, I need to upgrade my Blu-ray player. I have the cheapest and probably worst one. In looking at the forums, you need to drop about four thousand$ on a proper set up. To contrast, my dream photography set up would cost 10 thousand+ $ US. And for a hobby it's just a dream. I can't imagine dropping that, but it's interesting to learn about it.
I'm just in the learning about the hobby phase.
I will adding Blu-rays to this site. I think adding a section on the home page will be too cluttered. So I will add a sub section to the main individual movie pages.
I mentioned submissions.. and opening up the site, and I'm ready. I have 95 DVD's in hand. There are 76 on the site, and I have 20 on order.. and about a dozen more to acquire. Now is a good time. I'm going to get things set up for that. And if no one choses to contribute, that's OK.. I will continue to keep collecting and uploading over time.
Also I added to the site a film index. The purpose of this is to have an overview of Adéle's film career. There's quite a bit that is not on DVD, and I like to have that perspective.
It's slightly ironic I'm now a movie fan. I live in LA, and pre-covid I could not go anywhere without seeing film crews.. even where I live there's always "notice of filming" , road closures and detours. It's just in the background of my life. Also I work a block from Sony. So movie industry persons are everywhere. But I always ignored them. I just never cared about the art they were creating. Sure some movies and TV shows I love. I have netflix for that. Xena is my absolute favorite TV show.(I have this show on DVD).
Adèle's new movie Les Héros Ne Meurent Jamais, will be out in 11 days in France. Hopefully it won't be too long till it gets over here.

This week Plain Archive tweeted two of the images that will be in the Portrait De La Jeune fille En Feu Screenplay they are releasing at the end of the year. There's going to be some beautiful exclusive artwork in this release.
I wonder how quickly it will sell out? My guess is, it will sell out in less 28 minutes.
9/7/20
This week there were some goodies and info released. First Criterion released some beautiful artwork from Hélène Delmarie. The artwork shows the stages of progression for the DVD/Blu Ray US Criterion release. I added it to the Portrait page.
Also the Trailer For Portrait Of a Lady on Fire, dropped for Japan. And it was nice to see in the trailer both Adèle's and Noémie's name featured. The film will be released there on Dec. 4, 2020
Hopefully the film will be a big success, and bring this story to more womans. And in turn bring awareness to feminist issues, and other films of Céline, Adèle and Noémie.
Also, Plain Archive announced the pre-order for the ; Portrait Of A Lady On Fire Script. It's a limited edition and has a slip case. It looks beautiful, and the text is in French and Korean. Pre-order is 9/17.

Just some quick totals on the site progression. Today I added seven DVDs. This brings the total number of DVD's on the site to 63. And I have eight DVD's in hand to add. And I have on order thirty two DVD's. This brings the grand total to 103 DVD's. I'm looking for about ten more. It will take about a month or two to receive and upload the rest of the DVD's.. It's funny because I keep finding new ones to collect. I'm not collecting the multi zone ones with the French covers, if I did that would add quite a few more. I did order one though the Dutch edition of Portrait. From looking at the artwork.. It has the French cover/title, only difference would be the Dutch subtitles. And there's a whole range of these for Germany as well. Whew.. so many. But overall they would add too much duplication, at least I think they would at this time.
8/16/20
I added six more DVD's this weekend to the website, including two editions of Portrait of A Lady On Fire. I have three more editions on the way, and I am hunting for two more. It's enjoyable to watch the film with different subtitles, and see the different bonus material and even the different disc menus are super cool. When it's your favorite movie these things are more special.
Also I stepped out of my collecting zone and picked up the book Histoires d' Adèle H.
Histoires d' Adèle H.
The other nice surprise for the week, was the release of the movie poster for Les Héros Ne Meurent Jamais . So cool. I'm looking forward to being able to see the film in any capacity here in Los Angeles, or streaming VOD or disc.
France Theatrical Poster
And I also was able to find the French Edition of Die Blumen Von Gestern, Les Fleurs Fanées. This edition has English subtitles. I'm not sure if there's any bonus content. Also there's a new German edition out as well, it also has English subtitles. Both are on the way.. will have scans and purchase links after I receive them. I would cry for joy if a USA region 1 edition of this film comes out. It really needs to happen. And it's possible more of Adèle's and Noémie's films will be release in the US, due to the popularity of Portrait.
French Edition

My next big decision is how to handle Blu-Rays on the site. There many, many Blu-Rays, but there are far less then the DVD's. My first thought is to make a separate section on the home page. But then I'm thinking doing sub-pages, on each movie page. The issue with that, is it does not give you an overview. You have to click on each movie to see if there are Blu-Ray's there or not. But then again, I'm not sure how far I want to get into the Blu-Rays... So I'm still thinking on what to do.
8/2/20
I can't believe it, I just added 15 DVD's and 1 CD this week. Bringing the total on this site to 41 DVD's and 2 CD's. And I have 22 more DVD's on the way(12 from Asia). And I am actively looking for 10 more, that includes 3 from France. I'm not going to count the Blu-rays. Some countries are extremely difficult to purchase. Brazil, Turkey and Singapore are impossible right now. But I want to track down some from The Netherlands, Sweden and other areas of Europe. As well as more from Germany and the UK. And of course anything and everything from Asia.
But I'm just getting started because, I still need to go back and add the detailed info from the DVD's. Right now I have details for Portrait and Deerskin DVD's up. I spend so much time scanning, watermarking and uploading and making new pages, I just don't have time to do it all. But once the volume slows down I will have time.
I have not decided if I'm going to include Blu-rays on this site.
As I have mentioned it's impossible to have every issue of every DVD. I want to have a curated collection. After I have exhausted all of my on line researching and everything arrives in the next month or two. I'm going to open up the site for contributions. I'm going to create a contributors page to list out the name/contribution and link to their scan on the site. I created this site for Adéle's on line fan community to be a resource. The community has shared so much, I'm just happy to contribute to it all.
The film's on DVD are the canvas for the movie that is art. It's meaningful to me to have them on disc. I hope people can share scans(I will watermark them) for all. I will post on Insta : dvds_of_adele and Twitter: @Jupiter_Sky about this in the near future.

I have made the decision to nest out the pages on this site. I had thought I could keep everything on the home page. But with so many images on the pages, the pages load slow. I'm going to do this today... and it gives me a chance to add more content on a "main" page for each film.. If you look at my other collection web sites, I have 1000's of images.. and all of the navigation is mostly on the home page. But I don't think that is going to work for this site. I hate complicated navigation, where you have to drill down several pages to see something.. then back button out to get back where you were. With this new way of nested pages you just have to back button once to get to the main movie page. And the home button is on every page. I'm going to enable the side bar.. this will help as well.
This also gives me the chance to expand now.. while I'm adding to the site.. I will have to re link everything on the updates page. But that's easy at this time. I will start with movie pages I have at least two DVD's for.. and just keep following as I add more DVD's.
This is my fourth collection site. I have other collections that I don't have sites for.
7/18/20
There are now 23 DVD's on the site, and there are 34 more on the way! Also, there are seven more versions I'm in the process of locating. So this site will have around 65-70 DVD's. I'm not trying to find every DVD in every region and language produced. I'm trying to find the most interesting ones to me, and have wide variety of counties represented. And after I reach that landmark.. I will just selectively add DVD's now and again. (I will have at least eight editions of Portrait Of A Lady On Fire)
I hope that people will find this site a useful tool in finding Adèle's DVD's and distinguishing them. We have it so easy in the US. We have Hollywood(Love it or hate it) and it all comes out on region 1, and most of the time the primary language is English.. So it's a one and done process for many of us. However being a fan of Adéle's in the US and collecting her films, it's not so simple. What makes it a little more complicated is that on line sellers do not provide scans of the backs. And their descriptions are also vague. Not to mention trying to see what the bonus materiel is.
The other complication is the movie industry's use of regions. Especially if you use a lap top or Playstaion for viewing. You can change the region code on a lap top.. but only 2-3 times before it's permanent. And yes you can hack players to work. Years ago I stop messing around and bought a region free DVD player. There were just too many BBC DVD's I was purchasing . This is best option. I'm currently trying to set up ripping for region 2, I want to back up some of the bonus material that is exclusive to the region.
If you are looking to stream VOD of Adèle's films, not all of them are available all the time. I'm sure they come and go though. It was the lack of availability of many of Adèle's films on VOD in the US, that got me to look into the DVD's. I thought they were really cool. And I decided to expand my DVD collection, but I've never collected so many import DVD's before. I'm completely fascinated and obsessed with the hobby. I have a sizable music CD collection, and Japanese CD's are my weakness. As well as import CD's from around the world. The disc format is my music preference since I can't stand compressed audio.
And of course what prompted me to watch the first one, then all of Adèle's films is becoming aware of her during the pre-release hype of Portrait of a Lady On Fire. Portrait became my favorite movie before I even saw it. Not only is it my favorite and I feel it's the best lesbian film of all time, I hold it in the highest regard as my favorite movie of all. It's one of the greatest films ever, in any genre. And it should be in the discussion anytime great movies are discussed. I only need to watch it about 5,000 more times.
I'm thinking about expanding this site to include all of Céline's films... and that could be a project for next year.
7/16/2020
I saw on twitter, that Adèle's film Les Héros ne meurent jamais will be released in France on September 30, 2020. This is wonderful news. And I'm hopeful that this release will eventually make it to the US, either in the theaters or VOD. As well as a DVD release at some point.
I want to keep a blog on this site. I will periodically post about things I find interesting about either collecting or Adèle's film work, including critical analysis. In watching "The Forbidden Room" written and directed by Guy Maddin & Evan Johnson, who are from Canada. I found it interesting that having Adèle who is a French actresses, be portrayed holding a red balloon in the party scene. I am reminded of the famous French film "Le ballon rouge ". Maybe that was a little nod to French Cinema and to the short film.
