The purpose of this assignment is to use the standardized water supply, sanitation, and hygiene database to view country-level data on WASH information. Below is the link to the Joint Monitoring Program (JMP) run by the World Health Organization (WHO) and UNICEF (which used to stand for the United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund but it has since decided to go by the acronym alone). This is the globally recognized authoritative source for WASH data; however, that does not mean that it is without limitations, as discussed in our class.
For this assignment:
choose a country,
find a WASH project in that country,
select the subset of data that matches your selected project (household, schools, or health centers),
access the data, and
make a plot of the relevant data
To share (and turn in) your assignment, prepare one- to two-paragraphs that provide background of the project and WASH data; compile the narrative and figure in a pdf file and e-mail it to the instructor. Alternatively, you may record your response and upload it to a video sharing service (such as YouTube or the institutional account on Box.com) and send the link to the instructor (if you choose the video option, please let the instructor know if you would allow your assignment to be shared as an example in future classes). I have recorded the video example below.
