# Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 19, 2026
This Privacy Policy applies to the Android version of Duplicate Contacts
Cleaner (the "App"), published by Yax Technologies ("we", "us", or
"our").
Duplicate Contacts Cleaner is designed to find, review, merge, clean, back up,
and restore contacts on your Android device. The App processes contact data on
your device. We do not operate a server that receives your contacts, and we do
not sell your personal data.
## Information the App Accesses
The App requests access to your Android contacts only after showing an in-app
explanation and after you grant the Android Contacts permission.
When permission is granted, the App may access and process the following contact
information stored on your device:
- Contact names, including display name, given name, and family name
- Phone numbers
- Email addresses
- Postal addresses
- Organization and job title
- Notes
- Birthdays or other contact events, where available
- Websites
- Contact photo or thumbnail references, where available
- Contact account/source information, where available
- Device contact identifiers needed to update, merge, restore, or delete the
correct contact records
The App also stores app-related information locally, such as:
- App settings and preferences
- Onboarding and permission status
- Theme and premium status settings
- Duplicate scan results, including counts, duplicate group identifiers, contact
identifiers, match reasons, confidence levels, and timestamps
- Merge and cleanup history, including affected contact identifiers and
timestamps
- Backup metadata, such as backup identifiers, creation dates, contact counts,
file paths, and backup type
- Local backup files containing contact data, when you create a backup or the
App creates a pre-merge backup
## How the App Uses Information
The App uses contact information only to provide its core contact-management
features, including:
- Scanning your contacts for possible duplicates
- Showing contacts in duplicate review and merge screens
- Merging duplicate contacts after your confirmation
- Deleting contacts that you choose to remove
- Standardizing phone number formats
- Finding incomplete, empty, fragmented, or similar contact records
- Creating local backups before merges or when you manually request a backup
- Restoring contacts from local backups
- Importing or exporting vCard files when you choose to use those features
- Showing local cleanup reports and action history
The App does not use your contacts for advertising, profiling, or sale.
## Android Permissions
The App requests the following Android permissions:
- `READ_CONTACTS`: used to read contacts from your device so the App can scan
for duplicates, display contacts for review, generate cleanup reports, and
create backups.
- `WRITE_CONTACTS`: used to update contacts during merges, delete contacts you
choose to remove, restore contacts from backups, and apply cleanup or phone
standardization actions.
If you deny or revoke Contacts permission, features that require reading or
modifying your contacts will not work. You can change Contacts permission at any
time in Android Settings.
## Local Processing and Storage
Contact data is processed on your device. The current Android App does not
upload contact data to our servers.
The App stores scan results, merge history, settings, and backup metadata in
local app storage. Backup files are stored in the App's private documents
storage on your device. Android may protect this storage using device-level
security features such as screen lock and file-system encryption, depending on
your device settings.
If you export a backup as a vCard file or otherwise move a backup outside the
App's private storage, that exported file is controlled by you and may be
accessible to apps, services, or people with whom you share it.
## Sharing of Information
We do not share your contact data with third parties.
The free version of the App uses Google Mobile Ads. Google and its advertising
partners may automatically process information such as your IP address,
advertising identifier, device and operating-system information, approximate
location derived from your IP address, advertisement interactions, and
diagnostic information. This information may be used to deliver, measure,
limit, and improve advertisements, prevent fraud, and comply with legal
requirements.
The App does not provide contact names, phone numbers, email addresses, postal
addresses, notes, contact photos, local backup files, or other contact content
to Google Mobile Ads. Contact information is not used for advertising or ad
personalization.
The App does not currently include a third-party analytics or crash-reporting
SDK. If these services are added in a future version, this Privacy Policy will
be updated to describe them before they are used.
We may disclose information if required by applicable law, regulation, legal
process, or an enforceable governmental request. Because contact data is not
uploaded to us by the current App, we generally do not have access to your
device contacts.
## Advertising
The free version of the App may display banner, interstitial, rewarded, and
app-open advertisements provided by Google Mobile Ads. Premium users may
receive an ad-free experience when that feature is available and active.
Google processes advertising information under its own policies and terms. For
more information, see:
- Google Privacy Policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy
- How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services:
https://policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites
- Google advertising information:
https://policies.google.com/technologies/ads
Depending on your location, device settings, and choices presented by Google,
advertisements may be personalized or non-personalized. You can manage or reset
your Android advertising identifier and related advertising preferences through
your device's Google or Privacy settings. Available controls vary by Android
version and region.
## Purchases and Premium Features
The App may offer premium features or subscriptions. When purchases are made
available through Google Play, Google processes the payment. Google may process
payment information, purchase history, account information, device information,
and transaction identifiers under its own privacy policy.
The App may receive and locally store information needed to determine whether
premium access is active, such as the selected plan, entitlement status, trial
status, and expiration date. Yax Technologies does not receive or store your
complete credit-card or bank-account details.
## Third-Party Services and External Links
The App uses or may interact with the following third-party services:
- Google Play, for App distribution, updates, reviews, and purchases where
available
- Google Mobile Ads, for advertisements in the free version
- WhatsApp, when you choose the WhatsApp support option
- Your email application or email provider, when you choose email support
- Your web browser, when you open the Privacy Policy, Terms of Service, or App
store listing
Opening an external service is optional. Information you provide to an external
service is governed by that service's privacy policy and terms. The App does not
automatically send your contacts or backup files through its support links.
## Data Retention and Deletion
Contact changes that you make through the App are saved to your device's
contacts store and remain there until you edit or delete them using the App,
your device contacts app, your contacts account provider, or another authorized
tool.
Local App data, such as settings, scan history, merge history, and backup
metadata, remains on your device until you delete it in the App where a delete
option is available, clear the App's data in Android Settings, or uninstall the
App.
Local backup files remain on your device until you delete the backup in the App,
clear the App's data, or uninstall the App. Uninstalling the App normally
removes data stored in the App's private storage, subject to Android system and
backup behavior on your device.
You may revoke Contacts permission at any time in Android Settings. Revoking
permission stops the App from accessing your contacts, but it does not
automatically delete local App data or undo contact changes that you previously
confirmed.
## Security
We use a local-first design to reduce exposure of your contact data. The App
does not transmit your contacts to our servers in the current Android version.
No method of storage is completely secure. You are responsible for maintaining
the security of your device, screen lock, operating system, and any exported
backup files that you choose to share or store outside the App.
## Children
The App is a contacts management utility and is not directed to children. We do
not knowingly collect personal information from children.
## International Users
Your contact data is processed locally on your device. If you choose to export
or share backup files, you are responsible for where those files are sent and
stored.
## Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy when the App changes or when legal,
regulatory, or platform requirements change. The updated Privacy Policy will be
identified by a new "Last updated" date.
