At LSE I teach a course , with Tom Kirk, on 'Advocacy, Campaigns and Grassroots Activism'. Based on my book, How Change Happens (2nd published June 2024), this is a Masters module, capped at 75 students, and we get amazing people from all over the world, who come to process and share their own experiences. We have a very fancy course manual, with reading lists for each week, and a summary of the course content - just email me if you'd like to see it.
As part of the Global Executive Leadership Initiative, Tom and I also run regular courses on 'Influencing for Senior Leaders', which works with cohorts of big cheeses from the UN, International NGOs and the Red Cross/Red Crescent. Again, a fantastic opportunity to swap notes with people working at the sharp end of the aid sector, trying to make a difference in some of the most conflict-ridden places on earth.
With the Asfari Foundation and the American University of Beirut, we're also running a training programme on 'political acumen' for civil society organizations in Jordan, Palestine, Syria and Lebanon.
Those are the big pieces of work. Lots of one offs for organizations such as UNICEF, Chatham House, the G20 Global Land Initiative, INGOs, various activist organizations (and yes, we do a bit of pro bono work when people really can't afford to pay!)
How Change Happens has also informed Oxfam's Make Change Happen MOOC (running since 2018). The free online course has so far reached some 17,000 activists and aid professionals around the world since its launch on the FutureLearn platform.
On top of these, I give occasional lectures on how to design research for impact (a perennial topic in academia), and 'better blogging' - get in touch if you're interested. Recent slidesets for both below - feel free to nick.
