Reviewer
I acted as a reviewer for several journals and conferences, including the Fort Hare Papers, the Integrity Journal of Education and Training, and the Southern African Transport Conference. I also acted as a peer-reviewer for South Africa's National Research Foundation (NRF) in evaluating the quality of the research output of researchers.
Journal Editor
I have served as an editor for the ASFI Research Journal since July 2024.
I have acted as an external examiner/assessor for masters dissertations for various institutions, including the University of Cape Town and the Nelson Mandela University. Additionally I have acted as external examiner for many honours research projects for the Nelson Mandela University. Lastly, I have served as external examiner for several undergraduate development economics courses for the Nelson Mandela University.
I play a leading role in the Nedbank Schools' Essay competition in which the Economics Department works with high school pupils in the Fort Beaufort Education district. We have successfully held three annual competitions since 2017 and most of the winners have enrolled as students in the Department of Economics.
I also serve in the executive committee of the Council of Economics Educators, a body consisting of three University lecturers in the Eastern Cape province and officials in the Eastern Cape Department of Education. Our role is to organise and facilitate professional development workshops for Economics subject advisors and teachers in the province.
I act as a reviewer and tutor for Economics undergraduate and postgraduate students in South African universities who enter for the Nedbank and Old Mutual Budget Speech Competition. My role is to review the students' essays and offer mentoring and guidance before students finally submit the essays for adjudication.
