This year’s big family-friendly Earth Day event is being put together by a coalition of many local climate, environmental and indigenous focused groups (see cosponsors below) and all are welcome!
Speaker Rally Line-up: We will start at 4:00 pm at the Leif Erikson Park Amphitheater along the Lake Walk with a welcoming invocation and blessing for the Earth in Ojibwe followed by short speeches from scientists and faith, non-profit, and youth leaders. We’ll hear from students who have been leading an effort with the Duluth School District to install solar energy and from environmental scientists who will be speaking about the importance of clean water and our local EPA water lab office. We’ll hear from non-profits helping our community transition to renewable energy with new tax incentives and rebates and we’ll hear from faith leaders on the importance of caring for creation. We’ll hear from City Councillor Mike Mayou about important environmental advocacy opportunities locally and Council President Terese Tomanek will read a proclamation on behalf of Mayor Roger Reinert declaring April 22nd to be "Earth Day in Duluth."
March Route: We’ll be led out by a giant Monarch Butterfly street puppet and Earth Day chants and songs to march from Leif Erikson Park along Lakewalk to Gichi Ode’ Akiing (Lake Place Park Plaza) (<3⁄4 mile) Bring your signs!
Tabling: Begins at 5:00 pm at Gichi Ode Akiing (Lake Place Park Plaza) with live local music from Climes. 10+ local environmental and civic organizations will have volunteers and staff tabling with information, flyers and resources to help local community members get active and involved with important environmental and local advocacy opportunities!
Parking: At Start (Rose Garden and London Rd.) At the End (Endion Station area or N 2nd Ave.E & E Superior St.)
Themes: Environmental protection, local action, the important research of our EPA water lab. The International Earth Day 2025 theme is "Our Power, Our Planet," emphasizing the importance of renewable energy and calls for a global effort to triple the generation of clean electricity by 2030.
