Hello! My name is Timothy Duke, also known as DukeLagoon online. This website was made to be an archive for my comics. Check out my socials above, and my comics below!
The Cartoonist Collaborative is a club at Ball State University that works to create and publish short collaborative comics. I participated in all four years of college and became an officer, working in public relations and social media management.
This is a short archive of the comics I created with other members of the club. I created mostly comedic works, but I always enjoyed changing my art style and aesthetics to create unique and exciting pieces. We currently have a library of five "official" comics, as well as a one-page comic from The Cartoonist Collaborative's Comic Crunch: a one-week design challenge. Enjoy!
2022 - 2023
Bloodless is a retelling of an iconic vine from 2014, but with a dark vampiric twist.
The intense gothic style of this comic is purposely contradicted by the simplistic and somewhat idiotic storytelling, creating a beautiful but laughable experience. The character sketches were done by Sky Burnham, while I did the line art, paneling, and colors.
Extra attention was also put into creating elaborate Victorian-esque borders for the panels to further push the idea and expectation of a complex and beautiful story. Although beautiful, I have decided to never put myself through that again.
2023 - 2024
Get-N-Go is a convenience store comedy about a disgruntled worker and an annoying customer.
Created during my second year, the characters and story of Get-N-Go were written and designed by Terrell Barlow, while I did the paneling, line art, and colors. It was a fun experience working with and creating Get-N-Go's eye-catching geometric art style, with its pointy hair and cartoon proportions.
It was also a great experience learning to push and pull proportions for intense expressions, to go off the character model, and to create truly funny panels.
2024 - 2025
Mr. Abbot is a comedic parody of historical romance dramas and the absurdly long titles of isekai comics.
Unrequited love is a staple in romance stories, but most tend to end in a different way than Mr. Abbot. The hilarious dialog, paneling, and character sketches by the talented Caitlin Ruth. The overall story, digitalization, line art, and colors were done by me.
I am so ever pleased with how this cutesy comedy comic came out, and only wish there was more to see. Poor Mr. Abbot, I hope he rests in peace.
2025 - 2026
Biting Time is about a vampire lord and a merman who must pretend to know what's going on and fool the Vampiric Council.
It's always fun to watch a group of bafoons pretend they know what's going on, and the results are always interesting. Did Bastion and Makoa get the good ending? I'm not sure...
This collaborative effort went through 3 or 4 rewrites before we landed where we are now. Solstice did the backgrounds, while I did the characters and paneling. As much as I love how this came out, word of advice: write the characters for the story, not the story for the characters.
2025 - 2026
Dopyu Dopyu Kashi Girls is a parody of anime culture and a slice-of-life comedy about catgirls and their many mysteries.
The concept was created by Cat Russell, who also went on to write, storyboard, and line all of the artwork. I was brought on to help with colors, and boy, was it fun picking the grossest-looking color combinations possible. Yes, the comic looks bad on purpose as it adds to the comedy.
Anyway, if you enjoy things like this, be sure to read to the end and scan the QR code on the last panel. It will take you to Cat's website, where you can learn more about the comic and see more to come.
COMIC CRUNCH 2026
Poly-Chromatic represents how found family can change your perspective on the world.
The Cartoonist Collaborative's Comic Crunch is a one-week design challenge where two people join to write, panel, draw, and produce a one-page comic in one week. The story and paneling of Poly-Chromatic was a collaborative effort made by Crystal Covee and I. After that, Crystal focused on drawing and coloring the characters, while I focused on drawing and coloring the backgrounds.
Although somewhat chaotic, it was still a fun experience making a short and sweet comic about love and friendship.
