A Century of Fighting for Justice and Equality
During Fall 2024, members of a Sociology of Law course investigated how Duke students over the past century shaped university policies and advocated changes to local ordinances, state laws, and federal legislation. This online gallery and in-person exhibit in Duke's Reuben-Cooke Building showcase their work and how collective power can challenge unjust policies and form more equitable institutions.
With the help of Duke archivists and funding from a Reuben-Cooke Faculty Fellowship, nine teams researched the areas of legal activism listed below. We invite you to read, reflect, and be inspired by more than 100 years of Duke students using their knowledge and passion to try and create the world they want to live in.
