Particularly hazardous chemicals typically found on farms include drenches, insecticides and herbicides. Chemical injury ranges from toxicity, irritation, corrosive, damage to organs, and reproductive effects. Some key knowledge for farm chemicals:
PPE must be worn when using chemicals in accordance with their safety data sheet.
Drenches are particularly toxic, especially pour ons.
Oils are often carcinogenic. Wear gloves when handling.
Insecticides tend to be even more toxic than herbicides. Insecticides should only be used if absolutely necessary. Note: Phosdrin is a particularly lethal toxin with as little as seven drops.
Herbicides for fodder beets are particularly toxic.Â
