Dr. Truong is currently managing the battery cell research, development & production in VinFast, Vietnam. Before joining VinFast, he served as Assistant Professor at the Institute of Multidisciplinary Research for Advanced Materials, Tohoku University, Japan. He received a MSc in Chemistry from the National Tsing Hua University, Taiwan in 2009. In 2012, he received a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from Tohoku University, Japan. Since 2013, he joined Tohoku University as JSPS fellow and appointed as Assistant Professor in 2017. His career focuses on battery cell development & production management, cathode/anode materials development for high-energy cell, functional nano and micro-scale materials for energy storage and conversion. The R&D programs include the cell design, cell production, materials processing, and characterization of energy storage materials in advanced rechargeable batteries; novel electrode materials for metal ion batteries; and advanced lithium ion batteries for electric vehicles & grids large scale storage. Truong is the author and co-author of more than 70 peer-reviewed journal articles and 02 book chapters (3300 citations, H-index: 30).

Cell production management (process development, quality control, validation, failure analysis)

Rechargeable batteries (energy storage) for electric vehicles and renewable energy sources.

Functional materials for energy storage and conversion.

Development on understanding electrochemical reaction by characterization (electron scattering, x-ray and neutron scattering).

First principles computation guided materials discovery and design.
