Data Collection
Dumbify is built with a privacy-first architecture.
No Personal Data: Dubmify does not collect, harvest, store, or transmit any personally identifiable information (PII), such as your name, email address, physical address, or account credentials.
No Browsing History: Dubmify does not track, log, or monitor the websites you visit, your search history, or your online behavior.
No Analytical Tracking: Dubmify does not use third-party analytics trackers, cookies, or telemetry to monitor your mouse movements, clicks, or keystrokes.
Data Usage
Dumbify operates strictly on an on-demand basis. Data is only processed when you explicitly interact with the Extension (e.g., highlighting text and using the popup or context menu).
Local Storage: The Extension uses the Chrome storage API strictly to save your local user preferences (such as your preferred default tool mode: Simplify, Summarize, or Custom). This data remains on your local device.
API Processing: When you request a text simplification or summarization, the selected text is securely transmitted directly to the authorized Google Gemini API for real-time processing. This data is handled in strict accordance with standard AI provider privacy protocols and is not retained or used by Dumbify.
Permissions
To function properly, Dubmify requests minimal, specific permissions. Here is exactly why they are required:
Activetab & scripting: Used to temporarily interact with the text you highlight on your current tab, completely eliminating the need for broad, persistent background reading permissions across all URLs.
Storage: Used solely to persist your chosen application settings across browsing sessions.
ContextMenus: Used to create the right-click "Simplify with Dumbify" shortcut for a more seamless workflow.
Third-Party Data Transmission
Dubmify connects directly to Google's generative language API to process text. This extension does not sell, trade, or transfer your processed text to any other third-party entities. We encourage you to review Google's API Privacy Policy regarding data handling.
Changes to Policy
We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect technical or regulatory changes. Any updates will be posted directly on this page with an updated "Last Updated" date.
