In Arizona, a notary public is a public officer commissioned by the Secretary of State to perform notarial acts. A notary is an impartial witness and must have no conflict of interest. Many documents require a notarization in an effort to deter fraud, to prove the authenticity of the signature and to ensure that a signature was made willingly and no under duress. Therefore, it's essential that a notary accept a valid form of identification (unexpired state issued or unexpired passport) or a credible witness to determine that a signer is who he or she claims to be. ~Like the majority of notaries public, I am not an attorney and can not give legal advice. If you are in any way unsure about the documents you want to have notarized, consult an attorney or other qualified professionals.~
