The online instruction classes were perfect for meeting our dog’s needs for training. Having done many in-person classes for years, there were many things I loved about this format. First, it was nice to be able to train at home and find a space that worked for us to practice because sometimes carrying over the training from classes to home isn’t always easy. Additionally, working at home without the distractions of other dogs was nice for my younger puppy. Second, I loved having both the instructional videos and the video of our class session. That way I could review what we worked on in class to make sure we were performing it correctly. We could also watch our personal performance in class to see exactly what the instructor saw and helped correct if needed. All in all, the online classes met our needs very well and my dog made good progress.
I’ve taken many classes at DTCCC over the years and couldn’t wait to take my new puppy to classes. But Covid19 hit and I was concerned about teaching my puppy basic commands on my own because it has been so long since I had a puppy. My only option was to take a virtual class.
Let me tell you, it was a great experience for my puppy and me! It was easy to log in to the virtual class with the other students and instructor. I got to watch the instructor demonstrate how to teach a command, do the exercise with my puppy and also view my fellow classmates and their dogs do each thing. In a live class, I’m so busy keeping my dog focused on me, that I cannot always grasp everything the instructor is saying or the questions from fellow students. Plus I really enjoyed having the instructional videos and videos of my dog and I doing the exercises available to watch. Plus the handouts with all the instructions were available online.
I used a spare bedroom/home office as the training room and now my puppy associates that room with training and lots of good treats. She can’t wait to go there with me. And did I mention, she is much better focused on the exercises as we practice? Once we understood the exercises, I started taking her to public places and practicing. She knew what to do and the distractions did not matter as much to her.
It was a great experience and I hope to take more virtual classes at DTCCC!
Training online with the Dog Training Center of Chester County was very enjoyable. I was able to keep my puppy’s attention much better without the distractions of an onsite class and we were able to receive more individualized feedback from the instructor.
We really enjoyed the class and it confirmed that there’s so much to learn, even if you are an experienced dog parent!
