May 31, 2022-Aug 5, 2022
DSU’s summer REU program runs from May 31st, 2022 to August 5th, 2022. Please plan to arrive at DSU on May 31st, 2022 and leave DSU on August 5th, 2022.
Come into FSD – Sioux Falls. We are 45 miles from the airport. We have reserved a VAN to pick you up from the Sioux Falls Regional Airport to DSU in Madison. We will have a VAN to take you to the airport on your departure date on August 5th, 2022.
If you choose to drive to DSU, please let us (yong.wang@dsu.edu) know.
DSU will provide lodging for you during your stay at DSU. You will be placed in a single room in Courtyard Hall. Each room will contain at least one lofting kit/mattress, chest of drawers, desk, desk chair. Here’s the URL for the DSU website that contains general info on Courtyard: https://dsu.edu/student-life/housing/residence-halls/the-courtyard.html. You will need to supply your own bedding, towels, etc. The beds are XL twin beds. There isn’t any place in town to purchase sheets, so please be sure to bring sheets with you. There are multiple bathrooms around Courtyard that students will be able to use but they are hall bathrooms. There are washers and dryers in Courtyard that students can use. It does cost to use the machines. DSU’s summer courses are all online. The campus in the summer will be quiet and beautiful. A housing contract for the summer will be sent to you shortly. Please fill the form and send it back to yong.wang@dsu.edu.
There is no on campus food service during the summer, but there is a kitchen in Courtyard that students can use to cook their own food. The kitchen has a communal freezer but no refrigerator. We have McDonalds, Taco Johns, Subway, and Dairy Queen in town. We have 4 places that do pizza (Pizza Hut, Pizza Ranch, Caseys’ and Citgo). The latter 2 are carry out, but quite good. Plus multiple home owned and home grown places. 2 Mexican places and 1 Chinese restaurant that are all very good.
DSU campus is currently mask optional. Students, faculty, staff, and guests are encouraged to do what is most comfortable for their situation and be respectful of everyone’s choices. For more update on Coronavirus on campus, you can find the details at https://dsu.edu/emergency-alerts/coronavirus-update.html.

DSU was founded in 1881 as a school for teacher education in the Dakota Territory. Today, we're one of the most technologically advanced campuses in the Midwest. A public university, we are governed by the South Dakota System Board of Regents and accredited by the Higher Learning Commission. We specialize in computer management, computer information systems, and other related undergraduate and graduate programs. We stay true to our roots by placing special emphasis on the preparation of teachers with expertise in the use of computer technology in the teaching and learning process. We have more than 45 majors to choose from, plus a robust graduate program.
DSU has directed significant research and educational efforts towards cybersecurity. The Beacom College of Computer and Cyber Sciences currently offers four undergraduate programs including Computer Science, Cyber Operations, Network and Security Administration, and Computer Game Design, two master programs including Master of Science in Computer Science (MSCS) with a specialization in Cyber Operations and Master of Science in Cyber Defense (MSCD), and a doctoral program in cyber operations. DSU is among the first four schools selected by the NSA to receive the National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Operations (CAE-CO) designation in 2012. This project will help DSU reach out to many more faculty and students in the nation. It will enhance our strengths in cybersecurity education and expand our impact on institutions with limited cybersecurity research opportunities.
We’re located in Madison, South Dakota. It’s a bustling community with a friendly, small-town feel. You can take a tour of our campus online or arrange a campus visit.
