Prospective Students
*Information for Prospective Students*
Please read carefully in order to be a member of my research groups.
0) If you are undergraduate students at UQ.
You are always welcome to come by my office (Building 78 Room 605) to chat with me :)
1) To be a Higher Degree Research (HDR) student.
- Before you could begin a Higher Degree Research (HDR) study here (as a master or Ph.D. student), you would need to be formally accepted as a Higher Degree Research (HDR) student at our university. Information about the enrollment procedure at our university, the academic and English language entry criteria, application forms, etc. can be found at: https://graduate-school.uq.edu.au/english-language-proficiency-requirements
Information about UQ's scholarships for the HDR students can be found at:
https://scholarships.uq.edu.au/
*Please note that I cannot provide any funding for you unless I have external funding.
2) To be an HDR student under my supervision
- Before making any statement about me being your supervisor, I first need to receive the following information:
Please MERGE the following documents into ONE Single PDF file and email to dan [dot] kim [at] uq [dot] edu [dot] au.
Your C.V. (resume) in English
English Language Test score (IELTS, TOEFL, etc.) - you should meet the minimum requirement of UQ. (English requirements)
Academic transcript(s), CGPA (grade-point-average) and rank in your class/department;
Example 1: GPA 3 out of 4.5 for Bachelor degree,
Example 2: 6.3 out of 7 for Masters degree.
Published (or accepted) research papers (in conferences/journals, technical reports, etc) if any.
Funding plan (self, government, external, etc)
This should be clearly mentioned in your information. I do not usually fund HDR students and note that it is highly unlikely to get any UQ scholarships unless 1) your overall GPA (in Honours and/or Masters) is A+ (or close to A+) and 2) you have prior research experience and publications in refereed venues.
Your research interest: please state it as specific as possible.
3) Paper review & Coding test
Your background/research interest matches mine, you will be required to review a research paper. You will be given a research paper depending on topics of mutual interest. Please download the review form (here) and return your review within one week.
You may need to show your programming skill given coding request.
